Just an observation , on the number of owners that have trouble loosening the tapper collets on there hubs. Ive seen lots of hubs with BIG hammer marks on the hub, next to the collet holes.NOT GOOD.
TOYOTA repair manuals say to get a brass rod drift and put it onto the end of the collet stud and hit it with a hammer.Working each stud untill they become loose.Hope this is helpfull info.

The other way is to gently tap each side of the hub with a soft hammer... go round and round for about 5 minutes and it'll come off, with no marks...

Bill, that only works if they are not rusted in... trust me - beating the crap out of a brass drift on the end of the stud doesn't even work sometimes... which is when you resort to hitting the side of the housing, which deforms the hole breaking any rust-bind they might have.
But yeah, the optimum method is to tap the ends of the studs using a brass drift as not to damage the stud-end or threads

It seems that hitting the side of the housing is the only way sometimes.
You can almost do as much damage with the other methods if they're not co-operating. I undo the nuts till they are flush with the stud ends and give them a knock with a brass head hammer and if that doesn't work I go for the side of the housing with avengance
Not a nana hit, go for the home run (nana hits will do more damage in the long run)
Same when braking the taper on tie-rod ends etc - go for the home run! Make sure to aim good tho cause if you miss you can end up with a really sore knee

Also ,for you who have electric hubs, the eazy way to release the 3 little TORK ? screws from the slip ring is to use a 1/4" flat end pin punch and give the screws a good sharp smack ,one hit may be enough, but dont get to agressive as youll deform the head of the screw.
Hope this is helpfull. Kevin
