Bad shake when shutting down

Post by Heath »

Over the last few days I have noticed when the engine stops it shakes quite badly. Never used to do this, its not running on or anything like that and I have just had a service but nothing mechanical (other then a tie rod end) so whats gone wrong NOW! :?

96 diesel prado 1kz-te engine.

Have I got a buggered engine mount? Only seems to do this when stopping, otherwise its smooth.

HELP.

Have you removed the butterfly in that last lot of mods.
As when I did that on mine it shuts down with a shake now.

The shut off butterfly will be all gunked up.
Remove the throttle body and give it a good clean out with carbclean or similar.
Another good reason to get rid of the EGR system.

Had a look in the light of day and found the garage had removed a vac pipe from the bellows thingee that aids shut down. Hooked it back up and the shake goes away.

With the EGR killed does this valve thingee have to be killed too? If not I'd rather keep the death roll (thats what its like) to a minimum. I guess that with this working as it does, maybe my EGR valve is still partailly open (looks like I have to put in the blanking plate at the manifold. Anyone got the dimensions so I can make one before pissing around?

I assume that when the time comes this shudder will become normal to me but for now it seems really bad. I havent done anything else but if I leave it fitted what will it do if the EGR is blanked? Will it still work and still have a soft shut down? Or does it have to go as well?

At least it isnt the engine mount problem I thought it was.

if the egr is disabled yes you need that butterfly disabled. you just need to work out how to disable the egr side of it but not the shutdown action.

i don't know that motor all that well but generally there is a solinoid for egr butterfly and one for shut down. need to work out if it just uses one for shut down or both.
work out how it operates and make it so it only shuts the butterfly on engine shutdown.
