1KZ-TE. New Water Temp Gauge.

Post by Landcruiser70 »

After a search has revealed nothing...

I'm just in the process of hooking up all my after market gauges to replace the shite Toyota ones and was wondering if anyone's put a mechanical temp gauge in? Where did you put the probe?
There's a dimple on the casting which joins the radiator hose to the block which looks to be the spot, but thought I'd ask before I go f&#*ing things up.

And, where does everyone T their boost gauges into on these? I've got mine on the short line which goes from the turbo to the actuator behind it, and apparently I'm boosting 20 pounds :? .

Ive got my temp gauge hooked into an adapter which is fitted into the upper radiator hose (outlet of engine)

Boost gauge is T'd off the ECU boost sensor off the manifold. Mine only boosts 12 PSI.

Cheers for that, I'll go and retrieve one tomorrow. Problem solved.

However...

Have had a bit of a fiddle this evening with the boost, no luck. I tried it on both of the lines that I could find from the manifold. One is back towards the firewall, this one only showed vaccum. And the second was up the front and this just showed the same as where I had it on the turbo (20+ psi).
Would you be able to put a picture up of your set up please mate?

not sure if the Prado is the same as my Surf , ECU boost sensor on mine is at the front of the manifold. I'm out of town, so cant take a pic of the actual setup but have found this pic from the manual

Image

I'm T'd into the yellow hose off the manifold , little pink thing is constrictor valve , which connects to the boost sensor (blue) via the red hose.

Can look at my hard copy manual at the weekend for ya , which covers the Prado as well, if you are still having dramas.

Does the actuator on the Turbo look like its been played with or shimmed up for more boost?

edit : just seen Snorks post  ive got mine before the constrictor , which will show the vacuum in the manifold as well.

Hmm interesting. That's the one which I was saying is at the front (and where it's plumed up to at the moment) but I'm still getting 20+ psi. It's a bit hard to see the actuator but as far as I can tell it looks standard. Either way 20 or more pounds seems a shit load of boost, if it was boosting that much wouldn't something have gone wrong by now? The gauge is going off the clock.
