i have a manual 1kz prado 94.

am wanting to put new gearbox oil in it and my fill bund is rooted i would rather just drain it and refill from somewhere else..

being 4wd.. can i fill my gearbox up threw my gearstick hole if i remove gearstick as you can on a 2wd gearbox..?

A previous owner welded the filler hole on my hilux's gearbox up, guess it got cross threaded at some stage. I haven't had any issues filling it up through the top after removing the gearstick.

you can fill it that way but getting the fill level right could be a problem, over or under filling can be an issue, and checking level and if water has got in after trips. I would take the time to fix the fill.
my 2 cents. good luck with it

hi the r151f takes 3 liters of API GL-4 or GL-5 sae 75w-90.
the book I have does not do axle codes but models, it lists lj and rj which should be the same but can't be 100% on it
lists
front diff 1.9 liters API GL-5 sae90 (if above -18 deg c )
rear diff 1.85 liters same oil as above

hope this helps
