Nissan Terrano 95 Manual 2.7

Post by jacq87 »

Hey everyone I am currently in the market for a new 4wd not really for off roading more for general driving and towing.
I am currently looking at Diesel Terrano's.......I know the 2.7 auto isn't really strong enough for what I am wanting but what about the manual 2.7? does anyone know any major common faults in these?
I would love a 3.2 but there are not many around yet alone in my price range.
The other vehicle I am looking into is a 3.0l diesel toyota surf? most available at the mo are auto's tho......any comments on these?
Thanks any advice or help or knowledge is appreciated!

the manual gearboxes crap themselves. more than the auto ones (had both, manual is currently about to go for the second time and auto has gone and wont be replaced.).

also check rust under the rear seats by the mounts. gets rust in between the 2 layers of skin.

what sort of work will do with it?

Nothing wrong with a TD2.7 auto. I have one and it preforms flawlessly. Just make sure you do regular oil and filter changes and fit an after-market oil cooler to the auto, get it regularly serviced and it will do you well.
Ok people, move along. Nothing to see here. Thank you, move along.

with the manual boxes they made the filler bung too low on the side hence why they get noisey and do bearings. if you fill it by taking the gear lever out and do it that way it wont do bearings.
needs more curry

wouldnt touch a 3L surf auto or manual, if you want a good engine a the surfs go for an older 2.4 they are fairly good!

as for the terrano's auto or manual not a hell of a difference, like kiwipete said keep them serviced and well maintained like anything and it will do you good (except 3L isuzu engines!). Manuals do shit out occasionally though i have heard! but for general driving it shouldnt be a problem!

whats to explain????

the 2.4's in the older hilux's and surf's were damn near bullet proof, the 2.8's weren't too bad but really gutless and wouldnt touch the 3.0 engines as iv heard they are really unreliable from mates who use them as work trucks (contractors, bushman, etc) they have all gone back to the 2.4's or the older hilux's!

As for the gearboxes the auto's dont create enough compression and are really gutless and the manuals are are well known for blowing bearings!

if by 2.4 you mean the non turbo one then yea they are pretty good but make about 1 dogpower. The ones that came in the surfs were 2lt or 2lte's and were no good they are 2.4 turbo. The 1kz (3.0 turbo) is a huge improvement on the 2.4 turbo range but yes like any turbo diesel they have issues if they get hot or are not looked after.

I could ramble on about tempertaures, factory gauges, exhausts, egt's etc etc all day but its been done till the death on here so anyone thinking of buying on i would reccomend using the search function to help pick the best engine.
