rear brake compensator GQ

anyone made any mods to the rear load/brake compensator over the rear axle on big lift trucks 3'' or more. i assume the spring will need adjusting to suit to give adequate rear brakes??

I have a 3' spring lift and I haven't had to do anything, I also know of others that have 4' lifts and they haven't done anything with the spring.

Get on the Patrol forum in Oz, they run some big lifts over there on GQ's. Saying that I can't remeber reading or seeing this done anywhere. Good question though.

I've always adjusted my mount for the proportioning valve for lifts. One of the most overlooked adjustments when lifting.

thanks dave, just what i am looking for, suddenly put two and two together the other day, brakes not as good as before lift, i thouhgt it would have an effect on overall performance somehow.

It is really simple. You need to lift the bracket on the diff by the same amount you lift the truck. A piece of flat bar is all that is normally needed.
However in my opinion what you should be is disable the valve and set it so it is fully on all the time. That way it always thinks there is a full load and give 4 wheel brakes. This is what all the guys racing do and really improves the brakes.

As Darin says, chuck the spring away = lotsa rear brakes.
