line lock fiddle brakes
line lock fiddle brakes
well after my first run in my new truck i found out my lock isnt perfect but wondered how hard it would be to run fiddle brakes, then i thought about the limmited room i have, soo it got me thinking about line locks. line locks stop presureised fluid from returning to the master cylinder so thought maybe it will work the other way. so my question is what do you think about this setup, i run line lock solonoids on the rear brakes, the left front and the right front and if i pushed a switch that shuts rear solonoid and front left then if i put my foot on my brake pedle it should just lock the front right wheel. therefore i have fiddle brakes that are not operated by levers. i know i wont have brakes to all my other wheels untill i flick the solonoid switch again to free all brake lines up again. so are there any floors in this design?

ya going to be real busy driving a tight area, i seriously doubt you could react, engage a valve, apply brake and take it all off the rest for next use, be easier to put fiddles in
Cheers

Re: line lock fiddle brakes
is it road legal or not
if off road, then do a double brake pedal set-up similar to tractors
push left pedal and either one or two of the left wheels lock up, same on right pedal and pushing both........ well you should be able to work that out
otherwise fiddle brakes shouldn't take up too much room and ya can go for the single push/pull lever to minimise space even more

Re: line lock fiddle brakes
forgot to say this is mainly for use on club trips not tight trials courses, may be used for trials. oh and i dont think it is alot to do if i push and hold a button then aply brake then it locks that wheel and all i have to do to put back to normal brakes or other side fiddle is let go of everything. simple as. double brake pedal will be very hard as i have 3 pedals down on the floor as it is so another one will really confuse things. and i also have to mount a spare brake calliper for the fiddles.
Re: line lock fiddle brakes
Find a new pitman arm that makes your steering work. Those courses today were tight for anything other than a fiddle braked trials truck. For club stuff I think you will find if you can get full lock at the axle you will be ok. Your left hand lock is less than half what it should be.
There must be longer pitman arm to fit the vitara box i'm sure other have used vitara boxes with hilux axles and madeit work.

Toy - Zuk chassis tub, hilux 4.88 axles and transfer, Nissan CA18DE motor and auto trans, sc12 supercharger, 32 10'5 simex, twin motor 8274 custom freespool. Well the parts are all there in various corners of the shed
Re: line lock fiddle brakes
hey getting longer pitman arm also comes with a few hitches, may need to remake tie rod and need to make bump stops work so draglink doesnt hit pitman arm when its at full flex, i supose i dont really need fiddles, not for what i want to do ( club stuff).
might have to change the topic now, does anyone know of a longer pitman arm to fit onto a vitara box. oh and thanks for making me think straight again, fiddle brakes..... hu needs them
so will me suspension and steering in the front my next little thing to do.oh and the driveshaft. hope you get your truck fixed ok without too many dollars going into it.

Re: line lock fiddle brakes
Just fix your steering
THEN see if you need some braking mods

Re: line lock fiddle brakes
In reply to your question, Dave Taylor from Falsgrave Auto Spares has a Line Lock fiddle brake system on his Hybrid race/trial vehicle, controlled by button switches on the steering wheel, as far as I am aware they work very good although you don't have the feel you get with levers. Give him a call,

Re: line lock fiddle brakes
well fixed steering today without getting longer pitman arm i just moved the tie rod and mounted it to the drag link instead of in a seperate whole in the steering arms. i can get to the steering stops now but if i wanted i could have got more lock but that means longer pitman arm. should really take some pics of what ive done.
