G'day All
Just getting into a new project; a 91 SWB Landcruiser Prado. I've just built a rear bar for it & hopefully the new 33 MT's arrive today. Next up are a PTO winch, front bar & suspension, FW hubs, then a lexus & maybe some 35 Simex's
Just wondering if anybody has done up the suspension on one of these, I'm looking at replacing springs & shocks for a 3-4" lift. I see a few places have 4xspring 4xshock kits at pretty good prices compared with buying separate, even if the shocks are a bit dodgy I can always upgrade them in a year or 2. Any recommendations?
Cheers

You said you my fit PTO winch, before you buy one , check that your model does have the PTO gear fitted in the Transfer Case. Because Prados did not come out with PTO winches there maynot be a gear in it.in which case you may need to fit one.

There are off-the-shelf 4" lift springs for these, but you need to make sure a few other things are modified as well, or it will just be a bucket of puss. The front control arms need either castor correction bushes or you need to have the arms cold-bent or the steering will be all over the place, the panhard rods need either lengthening or replaced with adjustables, brake brackets in the rear from memory and a few other things.
The springs are about $450 from memory, I can track them down for you if you are interested along with the other mods that need doing (got them here somewhere, will dif them out).
I think Bill has the details as well...
Should be a nice truck... But a Lexus? Go 2JZ would be my recomendation... take a 2JZ car for a spin... they sound awesome, have great torque and are a much cooler motor (IMHO

Cheers Guys
The truck does have the gear in the t-case, the previous owner had fitted a PTO winch & then taken it off - I'm going to buy it off him so it should be a bolt on job.
If 4" needs a few bits & pieces done I might just hold off for now & worry about more lift when the budget stretches to some bigass simexs. Cold bending radius arms sounds a bit dodgy, I might work on fabricating something.
Those 2JZ's are a nice mill, but a good mate & partner in 4x4 crime here in Taupo is an engineer who has done quite a few lexus conversions so it's a bit of a no brainer to fit a 1UZ, we have a pattern for the adapter plate already & stuff like that.
