Got emailed this. Can any of you supra nuts help this dude out?

Hi mate my name is sass (from outerlimits) and I live in Australia,
I got your email from offroad express forums hope you don't mind!
Mate Im just starting to put a 7mge into my 89 RN105 dualcab and I was wondering if I could bug you for some info?
What I'm chasing is if the starter motor from an auto cressida will work with the w58 bellhousing and 7mge flywheel?
I've tried a few at the wreckers (bellhousing not in car yet) and the bolt holes line up but the starter looks misaligned with the housing.
I'm not sure if it will put the starter cog in the right spot to engage the 7mge flywheel! The reason I ask this is no one over here can get there hands on a 7mge manual starter motor for me (trust me I've tried everywhere)!!!!
Any help would be great!!!

Got it too... have emailed him back with the following info:

5M starter will probably work - SupraSurf will be able to confirm this - I think Mike runs a 5M flywheel and starter on his 7M

Y-series petrol motor flywheel will work with 5M starter. Just need to redrill one hole to fit the Y flywheel to the 5M crank (so therefor probably the 7M as well).

Also told him to watch trademe...

Took your advise and joined the forum so Ill probably be buggin you a bit more over the next few months (sorry).
Always wanted to learn mechanics so Ive thrown my self in the deepend and started the 7mge swap so im learning as i go!!!!
So far motor wise Ive striped the 7mge, milled, hardness tested and preasure tested the head, new head gasket, apr head bolts (over torqued to 72 footpound), new gaskets and a major degreese of everything, lick of paint and bolted it all back together.
Truck wise Ive plucked the 22r and all the accessories, striped the front pannels, bull bar and front grill, removed the 22r bellhousing and degreased 17 years worth of crap from the engine bay.
So this is where i stand at pressent!!
Parts wise Ive got new plugs, leads, slave cylinder, filters, new heavy duty clutch, 2 w58 bellhousings, w58 clutch fork (in the post on the way), 7mge fly wheel, full supra engine loom and ecu, igniter and coil and air flow meter all waiting install.
So all i need now is the starter motor, radiator and pusher fans and that should be the main parts all sorted!!!
I dont know how to post picks but when i find out Ill post some up!!!!

What radiators and fans you boys using?
I do mostly beach driving and want a really good cooling system for when i hit the soft stuff in low range.
Im thinking of using a diesel hilux radiator (moded inlet and outlet) as it's a "bolt in replacement" and marks adaptors uses them in the holden V6 conversions. If it keeps a 3.8 litre cool it should keep a 3 litre cool?
Any thoughts?

I'm using the Lux Diesel radiator with 2 cheap 10 inch fans without any real issues.

Anyone else using a simillar system?
Ive read that one 16 inch fan will pump more air then 2 10 inch fans!!
Whats your opinion?

Oh, and I just used the standard supra rad - the two bottom mounts bolt out of the cars and you can easily mount them in the front of the Hilux:
These ones just have pieces of 30x30 angle welded to them, then to the crossmember.

I used two Supra pusher a/c fans side by side to cool them and had no problems - I live on a beach and used to work it hard down there all the time on 35" Simexes. To be really sure, use a Ford Taurus fan - all the rage for the boys with V8s... 2 speeds, massive CFM rating. Only problem, they are sucker fans so you might need to move the rad forward somehow.

I bought one from a guy that mods supra gearboxes for v8s and he had a couple sitting around his shop! delivered to my door for $150.
The second just turned up with the motor!!! Didn't even know it was part of the deal!!!
Can the taurus fan be moded to pusher?

hi there, just getting a 5m put into my surf at the moment, it cost me $360 for my bellhousing, some are pretty hard to get, good luck with the conversion

Hi again from the land of Oz,
Ive been looking on the net to find the wiring diagrams for splicing the supra loom (I think its supra as it has 2 yellow and one white connector befor the ecu) into the trucks loom, but all i can find is diagrams and wiring lists on splicing into trucks that had 22REs or 5vze"s (V6), none for trucks fitted with 22Rs. I would asume the wiring would be rather diferent as my truck was never fitted with EFI as the other trucks were. so they would have most of the riquired wires (fuel relay, etc) in the loom already.
Would anyone have a wiring list or diagram for putting 7mge into a truck originally fitted with a 22R? Or know a site that does (already tried supracharged.com)? also how do you wire the fuel relay so it will cut off when the engine stalls or stops running?
Im still a while away from wiring it all up but i thought i better start finding out how to do it!!!

there should be a wire off the loom for the fuel pump ecu hook up,or look at the pinouts on the rear of youre ecu ,even take the ecu to bits and in very small print youle have all the codes printed on the curcuit board but youle obviously need pinout codes to cross reference.......

Just wire up your own relays... make a small box with the required relays in it and run everything new from there. Nothing in your loom will be remotely useful I would think. Even the Alternator is internally regulated as opposed to your one which is probably ext. reg'd.

Fuel relay, just wire it to the 'ignition' so its running when the key is on - theres a return line for the fuel, so it just 'endlessly loops' from the tank to the engine bay and back again... does no harm, except maybe in a bad accident where it could conceivably pump petrol everywhere if the line ruptured...

Hi guys me again.
New problem to bug you all with.
The guy suppling me the w58 clutch fork called today after 3 weeks waiting for it in he mail and said that he doesnt have one now.
So im on the look out for a suitable clutch fork!
My question is is there a different clutch fork (say from w56) that will work with the w58 bellhousing?
The reason i ask is that ive called all over australia to try and find a w58 clutch fork but to no one has any!!!!l
any of the celica ones work?
any help would be great because this is realy starting to slow me down now!!!!!!!

I'm pretty sure a 2L or 2LT diesel fork will work

Yer a 2L will work but its a litte longer so you have to space the clutch slave cyl out a bit. bout 6mm from memory

Ok so if a clutch fork for a 2L will work will it use the same ball pivot on the bellhousing or will i need one for that specific fork?
Also will the rod in the slave cylinder need to be lengthend?

Once again its been a while since I used the 2L but it will fit onto the piviot ball without any issues and the slave will line up OK. You may need to adjust the rod lenght but at least this won't stop you getting the engine and box mated

Ive just found out that the w58 came out in the coronas from 84 on and some bluebirds. Would the cluch fork from one of these w58 fitted cars fit?

yer Mike, those would be the 7M-GTE, 1JZ-GTE VVTi and the rare 1UZ-FE Corona's , no but seriously I aint heard of a w58 in a coronry either SASS, but that dont mean it didn't happen!, just grab a 2L fork, it'll be sweet.
