bj42 rear number plate light

Post by tangy »

Hi all

Have been fixing my truck for ages, finally everything is done apart from the rear number plate lights. 1983 bj42.

When rear door is shut and the lights are on, its not working and the fuse blows. However if the door is open, the number plate lights work.

so far done; master/slave cylinders/shoes/pinion seal/new speedo cable/break hoses/wheel bearings/rust

to get a wof i need this little light problem sorted :) if anyone is in chch that wouldnt mind having a look sometime, would be good. :)

*** all problems sorted, thanks for help ! **

It'll be a frayed wire where it runs from the rear door through the side panel. There are removeable plates on both the door and the side panel to get at the wiring. I'll bet the insulation has rubbed off somewhere...

The wire must be shorting on the door or the body when the door shuts, just check the wiring around the door shut.

Check the relay attached to the side of the glove box, they give probs all the time.

like ccc said, i had that problem on my thing just recently.. new edic relay installed now shes all tickety boo.. with thanks to ccc for the part too..

pretty much the only way to check is pop the little control arm off that runs from motor to pump and turn ignition on and off, it should move to start/over fuel cold start if relay is alive, if not, its terminal..

does yours have an inline fuse? i put one in mine.. 10 amp covers it too..
