Well it's been a while now and thought i'd post up my build at present.
Details are as follows..

80 series rolling body - 340mm cut off the back.(done)
74 cab removed from origianl chassis and cut down to a 2 door, back plated and folded,bogged ready for paint.(done)
Need rear window.(done)
Need complete front.on my BJ70 donor truck.(just needs to be made ready for paint) done.
Engine will be my Lexus in my BJ70 donor truck, currently not sure wether to go Auto or keep manual.I have already got this running and it goes "o" for awesome and at 2ton+ in my BJ70 it's heavy.My new rig will be I'm hoping around 1500kg.. so much better No where that weight now complete..
I have a mod for my winch when I get it off to make it go better but won;t start that till the truck is running.done
Build up a deck for everything on the back.done
Bar work etc..done
Some sort of strengthening on the front end, It has the High pinion diff.But at around the 1500kg mark I'm hoping it'll handle the jandle...it'll be almost 1/2 the 80's original weight..


Currently-
Have spoken to Peter Watson about what i'm doing and he's very happy about it so has given me the go ahead to build up to complete.
On the work front.. I'm scribing OEM mounts to chassis so cab will be mounted.

The main reason for going down this road is I'm wanting the next level of truck as I have out grown my 70, she has been very loyal and realiable but as most of you know.. they have a limit to modding and I have been there for a few years now.
I know that some on here would have seen Donald Prestons truck on trademe and I'v spoken to him thro email and there are a few things that I won't be doing do to complexity and hassle.But i had thought about this conversion for a while before I had seen his truck.. main thing that will be different will be that I'm using the original 80 chassis and he matched the back cross members to the 70..
Basiclly though they will be very similar in the end.
Oh mine will be white..lol cheap colour..

My wish list is,
full set of lockers.
Adjustable panhards
Chromolly front end including CV's
Chromolly trailing arms- will get new OEM ones for the time being.

I'll post up some pics when I can be bothered but most likely be when I have paint on it.(in next couple weeks or so)

OK.. Have got some pictures ready for everyone.. please bear in mind that these have been taken a while ago and I have been working on this for ages.. typical project really.. anyway here is what I started with

Here is the donor body.. not much better..
Got it from a bloke over in Ashburton..Been lying in a paddock for years by the looks and they had hacked up the chassis.. didn't bother me though..

Here is when I chopped everything off everything..lol
80 series with the body removed


70 with the body removed so I can remove the body mounts


And the 80 with 350mm chopped off the back end..

The body had taken a beating so just about everything had to be straightened somewhat.. rough bar stewards..lol

Drivers side back corner with the back end chopped off, used my trusty ol saber saw..

Main body where window bolts up to welded up

Window frame rust repaired totally all new steel etc..

Currently going through electrics to change over everything from 24 to 12.. so far so good. pics to come.

ok here is the FRP top finished and looking as good as I can get it due to it getting a hiding.. Hammertone paint used to try to get it looking semi respectable..

Started the main hoop and deck last week.. not a lot done and I've run outta wire..
Still have to mount to chassis and stitch everything together.. just forming ideas and how I want thing as I go. Bar bends down to a 234sq cm 5 mm plate that is going to be welded to chassis.

Basicly I'm doing an exo but I'm hoping to have removable top section that still meets the rules.. We'll see what happens..

Bloody mig was playing up today , farking cheap shit .. LOL turned out the negative connection, inside had got hot and started to melt.. loosening the terminals, in short not a good grounding.. grrr welds turned out like bird shit.. lol but ma grinda sorted that out.. Then when things started to get good I ran outta wire.. GRRR Ordered some now gotta wait..
Still have to place in the x bars and brace bars once deck is at height.

POST 9

I been making my cage and deck and have so far got cross brace on main hoop, all attached to the deck and zipped up everywhere any steel touchs to add to brace type strength.. I hope it's not too bad as my mig has been playing up a bit but I think it's ok.. I have very good penetration and if I'm unsure I have just gone overboard. It is very strong as I tried to beat a peice off and it tore..lol

On the main hoop there are 234 sqcm 5 mm plate where they are going to attach to the chassis. I sort of made a cockup but I've incorperated it into the secondary bends then onto the chassis plate. should work real good. anyway if anyone see's anything that can be made better or I should chop something off, then please speak up..

POST 10.. will edit the previous posts to make this easier..

Fuel tank installation and pump mod.. this took a while to get right.. for lack of a better word.. Space. Finally went with the 80 fuel tank and fabbed up some mounts etc to fit as factory as possibly.
My 70 tank with fuel pump in.. had to remove it to remove the pump

Then I modded the 80 sender unit so my fuel pump will work and not have to cut another hole in the tank

Will remove tank and give it some lipstick then I can re assemble it and screw down the deck.. After that I can finally start on my old truck and remove the engine etc.. Got myself a hack now for work.. once deck down I'll post up some pics.. cheers

LOL there nothing to show atm.. got 4 outta the 6 body mounts made today.. took a bit of fluffing around as I was hoping to keep the oem steering shaft standard.. but alas I cannot..
Who can re spline stuff anyone..?
I took this approach due to hand brake cable working out now and the front lining up better..so steering shaft is the mover..

Yep you need to be a member to get a photoalbum.
Either become a member or use a different site, i use Photobucket just make sure to set the resize on the uploads to whatever this sites maxium is i forget.

Forgot to mention.. hilux rear sliding window all but in.. just needs the locking rubber inserted.. then done and dusted.

Front windscreen is shall we say in the pipeline but waiting for insurance to approve it.. lol winks says no more

So far NO doors or front and No rear tray... just about everything esle painted and or done.

Also I'm going to need 80 series drive shafts.. If they are going to pricey then I might opt to gettting the ones I have lengthened..

I have a double cardin for front.. (hilux one)
and I was thinking of using the 70 rear and getting it made longer.
Can swap for the right ones and or $$ but I'd preferr the cheaper option.. you know these things are built on shoe string budgets...lol

that pic above, when you view it in your album, right click on it which will give you a list of options. The bottom one should be properties. Select that.
It should give you info on the photo, one of those being URL address which will look like this

ok giving this a try.. here is the front body mount extended to match the main tub to 80 chassis
Had to remove the original mount and move it forward the length of the mount to align it... Hope this works..lol

Big hi 5 to williamhamilton for helping me with posting pics on here as this was the main reason I not posted any for ages..
Will get some more pics over the next day or so of where i'm at..

Most incab electrics are basiclly sorted from 24 to 12.. Toyota is great in that all i have done is remove all the old 24v relays and replaced them with 12v ones.. handy havin the 80 series loom with all the 12v stuff.
Just got a few loose ends to tidy up and find homes for but it's done.. then need to repair the 70 loom where I chopped through it with my saw..lol but no biggy really..

Here is the engine bay side getting a make over.. just need a flairing tool to place the brake lines in a better position..

So far it has taken me about 3-4 months to get to here after beating everything back into shape and painting.. I know white is boring but ripco only has black or white and I cannot affford to get 4 ltr tins of paint so this has been done on 1 ltr tins budget.. when I can afford 1 ltr then I get it..

As it stands I'll be hopefully getting a wrok hack next week and so can then move on to removing the goodies from my ol girl.

After I put the lexus into her and gave it a little loving..


Basiclly I have out grown her and to sell it , well I would want over 12k for it and it's just not worth that much.. also to buy some of the components to make the engine work properly I don't think I could even get now.. so ... I came to the conclusion that it's gonna be my parts wagon..
Only stuff left will be the seats, axles, and main tub/cab.. plates will be put on hold and as it's cert'd already for the lexus i'm going to be open to offers for it.???
