In-cab winch mounting??

Post by J_Dub »

decided im gona have an in-cab winch setup, plenty of room now with the ute chop giving that the rear seats are gone, have had a nosey, and with the bodylift ive got a perfect straight line with no interferance, from the front to area behind passenger seat, where the chassis has a "T" section, so perfect area for mounting.
Anybody got pics of there setup? pros/cons?

yep Rok pretty much, gona have mine more so to the side, i like how yours sits about floor height but back under the raised floor-pan.. im liking the idea, no overhang out front, and keeps the winch clean and dry. Have you made up your front bar?? just drawn plan up for the mount plate and getting plasma cut this Friday for free :D hes hoping i might be able to sell a few

My cable runs out the back through a hawse fairlead and into a 10t snatch block. It then runs back through another fairlead before running up the inside of the chassis rail and comes out the front on the passengers side.

Just curious... Wouldn't the cable/inside of the chassis get damaged from it running along the contours of the chassis, if there are any?

Probably, but it isn't a winch challenge unit so I'm not interested in line speed, and if the line not generating loads of heat it should be okay. More likely to wear the side out of the chassis rail if it is used a lot, (not planning on using it too much  ). I can't see how rubbing inside the rail is any different to running through a fixed hawse fairlead.
I wouldn't try this trick with plasma rope though....

what are the reasons for running it to the back then to the front? will that mean you can easily winch either back or front?

You need more rope but yes once it is rigged this way you can quickly set up to winch in either direction
There is no mechanical problem so difficult that it cannot be solved by brute strength and ignorance.
