To sway bar, or not to sway bar....
To sway bar, or not to sway bar....
Just fitted some new Old Man Emu springs to my JB74, and noticed that the sway bar holds the axle up. I know a lot of people remove the sway bar for off-road use and was wondering is it worth doing or will it just handle like crap

Re: To sway bar, or not to sway bar....
i went in for cert on big girl long story got rejected, i had to get the steering and handling fabricated. new laws state that if you lift a truck it has to handle like a factory one a couple weeks later rick at 4wd accessories sorted it all out.now she turns on a dime and handles like a mr2 hahaha
so yes to sway bars you can always detach one side when you play as i do

Re: To sway bar, or not to sway bar....
Just certed my Safari couple weeks ago, flew through both Cert and WOF with no sway bar.....And definatly doesnt handle like Factory. He also told me ya cant cert any lift higher than 100mm over standard now, thats body and spring combined.
Softroader VW Amarok nowadays....
Re: To sway bar, or not to sway bar....
So what happens to everyone else that's already cert'd over 100mm? The cert guy I deal with has never mentioned anything, he always says its at his discretion basically...
Anyways, check out the other thread, opinion varies from wof guy to wof guy and model to model so try it. My patrol has always passed without one from multiple places - Ebbett holden and vtnz to dodgy wof guys.

Re: To sway bar, or not to sway bar....
I have been trying to keep in touch with my cert guy and he has never mentioned a max-over-standard height. I hope you are wrong because mine is 300mm of lift, but there is not one bit of standard suspension left and as far as I'm concerned it is at standard height now
Back on topic, If your rig is driving like a total pig (very common for lifted trucks) fit bigger sway bars with quick disconnects. Simple solution really.

Ugly is a state of mind..... and the state of my truck!
Re: To sway bar, or not to sway bar....
There are lots of stories going around about needing & not needing stuff & heights etc.
The only fact is there are no heights mentioned in any documentation about lift heights etc.
Its all down to the individual certifier & if he thinks its safe or not.
