Post by Brownowl »

Hello in there!Newbie not really into the dirty stuff but was looking for some advice on 4 wheel drive vehicle.
Want on to go fishin' with and to tow 15ft caravan .
Will also be used for goin'to work (10klms per day).
Great site though and looks like fun.May eventually do some lookin' but may be too old to actually get into it.??Wanting to spend no more than $8000.Thanks. :

depends on where you are going to be fishing or how much off road adventures you are going to be getting into.

If you think you may get into the off road scene a bit then a Nissan Safari GQ would fit the bill nicely, you could pick up a decent LWB model for under $8K. Would be great for towing the caravan and go extremely well when a turbo has been fitted.

If you are only going to be driving on gravel, maybe the odd beach then you may be better advised to go for something with IFS as it will drive better on the road. Maybe a Surf with the 3.0 dsl or something similar.

I love my 96 prado shortie. Not sure if a LWB would be better for towing though. I don't tow much (not yet anyway) so its not a concern for me, but I did get my tow bar modified so it has a removable towing hitch (didnt need a plow for the rear when offroad).
