if theres other threads on here detailing hi steer point me in the direction but i cant find.

its the nex mod im looking at doing as diffs and axles coming out shortly to fit locka so mayaswell do this and be done with it..

pitman arm, flat or dropped??? what determins which 1 too get?

and with the rears going up front pushing the axle forward, do the springs fit straight in place and is it the fact that the centre locator pin is 50mm (or whatever it is) more forward than that of the original setup?

ill have a few more questions but them 2 is what I wanted to double check

mocked up the steering today and with the rears up front and steer box trial fitted as far forward as possible theres absolutely minamal clearance between tie rod and drag link..

have others come across this issue, im thinking i may resort back to factory front leaf springs but fitting them in the forward hole in the spring perch which will still put the axle forward 25mm and will mean 33s clear the firewall and give me enough clearance for high steer..
I cant get my head around how people move the axle forward any more than what r.u.f do and fit the steer box on the outside of the chassis rail????

Any chance of a pic of how you lined it all up?

I moved axle 150mm or so forward, and chopped the cab bodywork a little. Its a common way to do it to gain the space between tierod and draglink.
here is a pic of mine

I ended up cutting the cab mount off as it was of no use

angle of the box is more or less in line with steering shaft, steer box is as far forward as it will go, hitting panel work surrounding body mount

still has factory pitman arm but is same length and offset of the pitman arm that I will be using

As long as you keep the draglink parallel to the tierod on both vertical and horizontal planes you cant go wrong. If your draglink is on an angle you will get crazy bumpsteer. 8) 8)

before you mount your powersteer box get hold of a pitman arm off a prado, they are flatter than the surf one and have a female acception point for a std hilux ball joint (no adapter req) the prado pitman arm spline is the same as the surf/lux so fits directly on

beter note that I havent yet dropped the front hangers/crossmember too.
what im questioning is that we were going to drop and move forward the front hangers to fix shackle angle, and for clearance for the high steer kit, steer box etc between chassis and leafs, but as this would push axle forward too, it would reduce the room I have to fit steer box, as the steer box as is far forward as it can go now let alone if the axle was pushed forward even more..

someone has said before that by dropping the front hangers/crossmember it fixes the shackle angle??? but I cant see how this works....

you seem to be concerned that the powersteer box is in line with the steering column, doesn't matter if it's not as the colomn travels through 2 universals, if you alter the angle that the box is on you get it a lot further forward....like this;

cheers for the info guys
good to know i can mount the box flatter which will give me more room to play with.
so my thought are when i drop the front hangers say 50mm I might sneak them forward too which will fix the shackle angle, then If I need a tad more room in the steer department I could always push the axle back 25mm by re-fitting it on the back holes on the spring perch??
how does that sound
