Car Wash and Rain

Post by bigcat »

Am interested to know what people think about driving in rain with a snorkel? Does it matter that some gets sucked down?

And also is a car wash out of the question with a snorkel fitted??
Could you put something over the top to ket water out?

Cheers

My safari snorkle has radial fins that the top hat section fits over, in theory any rain is forced to outside and runs through the slots left due to fins, then drains outside of snorkle, assume other aftermarket p[lastic types are similar. Also any small drops of water will vapourise before engine.
CAR WASH, obviously cover it well so cant covercant come off, remove before driving away
Cant remember if there is a small hole at low point in snorkle plumbing as safety measure, if not why not?
Always wondered what would happen if undesirables put water in snorkle for bit of a sick joke

My thought is that engines dont mind a bit of water through them. It's just wholesale water ingestion that's the problem. Some performance cars have water injected into the intake to cool the air charge after all. Plus, if you have the snorkel going into a standard air box, they usually have a water trap in them that'll hold a decent amount of water before it overflows through the filter and into the engine.

What's needed is a non-return valve in the water trap that lets excess water in the air box drain freely out, but stop water ingress when the air box is submerged...

Cheers, I thought that would be the case with the airbox trapping it but was just curious. I know what you mean by the no-return valve, they have them on scuba masks to blow water out.

Thanks guys. :)
