I read mudbugga question on a designing something to suit his double cab.
Well, me and the bro are trying to come up with a design for the rear of the FJ40. Something that will keep you in place instead of a harness and something that can rotate 360 degrees while keeping your sights firmly on the target.
We will come up with something this year. I just thought i'd ask you fellas what you thought might work.

Any ideas? :D

You wanting to shoot below horizontal??
Copy a ring turret type arrangement off a WW2 bi-plane tail gunner. Sounds like an interesting project :)

bloody hell Pete

its an FJ40 fercrissakes

you will never be able to hold a shooter still enough to pop bunnies

the best solution I can see for you is one of these fancy contraptions..................

Wow Bubba. That's a serious setup right there.

skid. I've potted bunnies well over 100m away standing from the back of the 40. 8)
But it would be cool to recycle or modify something to strap on the back. Something that you can stand in that could rotate 360 degrees and have your gun rest on without shooting unsupported. Normally the shooter is harnessed to the roll bar stopping him from falling out. Don't laugh, cause it's happened before.

I fell over board once. rolled my body to land on my back to protect the gun. swore, stood up and got shot in the back of the head. OR would of if my mate hadnt questioned why his scope went blurry just as he went to pull the trigger. Too many shooters on the back of the ute was the lesson really. sure made us all have a think

We learnt in a similar fashion. Two shooters on the back instead of one. But for PC sakes, I won't say we were moving. As I'm pretty sure. To shoot from a moving vehicle is illegal, unless you have a permit or your a contractor, so to speak.
Getting off topic there a little.

When we go shooting for bunnies n hares the ideal number is three. One in the driver seat. Passenger beside him spotting. Person in the back is the only one with a rifle. Works really well.

mount a small turntable on the deck of your 40 (like a trucks trailers) have plate attached to turntable and frame comming up so it looks like a drum to the height you want with a it the shooter can stand inside the "drum" nice and safe.
my 5 cents worth

A centre pole (maybe about waist height, or adjustable) with a towball on top. Attach a "socket" to a belt or back brace, one that fits over towball (with a quick release pin). The "socket" would then be strapped to shooters back. A padded circular bar around you to act as a rest.
Just a thought

we used to strop a 44gallin drum to the head board of the ute to stand in. that made it hard to fall off.

yip thought that was the wrong address but couldnt work out what was going wrong
oh well doesnt matter the correct one come across anyways

there was a 6 to 8 minute feature on the creation of that vehicle
but i cant find it anywhere

it showed that as the gun went over the front the wipers came on automaticly to allow the driver to continue driving etc

its quite a beast when you are able to see all the extra features that the vehicle has built into it
