I fitted a replacement door skin to my 88 Surf over the weekend and transferred the electric windows, lock and handles/opening mechanisms over.

Was actually quite involved, getting everything out and then back in again was a bit of a mission.

Managed to break a little plastic clip that retains the rod onto the outside door handle and snapped the lug off on the exterior mirror housing. Both easily fixed luckily.

Matt.

had the final of out interclub trial series auckland/northland region (Laurie Sanson Memorial Fun Rally Series). Bloody slippery this morn with the rain we had yesterday. Some well thought out hazards and a few rollovers - 2 as they came through the blue pegs at the end of one particular hazard so they did actually "zero" it
Ran with a dodgy alternator so another thing on the list to do. Dunno where I came today as I had a bit of a crap day but got second in B class for the series and 3rd overall for the series so pretty bloody happy with that 8)

Drove from Hastings to Waiorou on Saturday uneventful trip.
Great bit of country though the rain shorten the view sum-what.
Anyway droped off what I needed to and headed back, then the fun started...
Blocked culverts = flooded road - not realy an issue.
A tree that had fallen with enough force to shatter a 200mm trunk right on a corner - stoped and tossed the bits off the road the then towed the bigest bit to the side of the road - hey simple when you don't have to worry about getting stuck if you go off the shingle road
then three seperate slips the worst one required going off the road completly into the mud and slush on the side of the road - put it in 4wd just in case and went through no problems at all so put it back into 2wd to see the differance and went back through. well I got through with a lot of wheel spinning and tail end sliding- watched a couple of cars go through the front wheel drive did it better than the rear wheel drive.
Then along came a sheep truck and trailer there was no way he was getting through
so he was going to wait till they dug the slip out and help out anyone that got stuck so I left him to it.
No real drama but was better than sitting at home :) :)

Did he listen because he was interested, or because he thought you might take him for a drive in the Jeep? :) (Just thinking this through from a male perspective :P)

I wonder how many women I've bored sh%$less babbling on about 4WDing over the years

Me, I stayed at home mostly, due to having the man-flu... (apparently a 10th as bad as the woman-flu, but it makes us moan 10 times more...)

Bought another Hilux front axle and a gearbox on Sunday... SAS's-r-us is open for business :P

Oh, and did manage a quick detour via the Waimak on the way home from town on Sunday only to meet a certain board member coming the other way down the road with a truck full of testosterone... sideways :P I won't name him, his dad reads this  Also watched a guy with wife and kids on board in a bog-std 80-series trying his hardest to get them all stuck in the mud... to his credit, despite trying, he didn't get stuck at all.

i repaired a leaky fuel tank

it was a little depressing because it exposed a flaw in the design of my mercedes it has rocked me to the core :D :D

did you know that a temporary fix for a leaking fuel tank can be done with soap - it blocks the hole. I drove home from Dennys 2004 from Auckland with soap blocking my fuel tank hole

mine was a bit more serious than a small hole. the tank in my g wagen has 2 parts one of which is mounted in the rear wheel well which is fine except there is nothing to stop mud from getting into difficult places and slowly rusting

Got to work putting low ratio diffs in my Pajero. After a big weekends work I have the diffs changed over. Getting them out of the donor was easy as no body or engine to get out of the way but getting them in mine was a bit harder.

Not to mention the back ends on these are so blinkin heavy its not funny! drove into the workshop at 8:30am. To do the entire swap for the rear was about 3.5 hours (not including fitting the air compressor etc).

The front diff was not so much fun having not had an independant end to bits before I was just feeling my way a little to begin. After getting the ball joints the cv came out of the diff not to bad & other side unbolted easily. After deciding the crossmember needed to come out the diff came out but it is bloody heavy as well.

In with the 4.9 one and fixed in place only to discover the bolt holes for the right hand cv are different so my cv wouldn't bolt up to it! (By now thinking Steve & SAS....)

And having read they were the same I didn't have the 4.9 cv with me - a 2 hour return trip to Invercargill had the right cv and after 5.5 hours I had the front one in and drove it out of the shed.

Then remembered I had no brakes - or at least limited brakes and no handbrake! I was hoping to use the LWB handbrake cable because I feel the SWB handbrake comes on on full articutation and hinders travel a little. The LWB cable is very long however and I guess I'll change back.

Next weekends job is to bleed brakes, fit handbrake and compressor, ECU, etc & take it for a wee spin hopefully ready for our Serpentine trip on Sunday!

nah neither!! saving to fix all the shit on my jeep. some ###### smashed my back window!!! luckily insurance is covering it but man its such a hassle. and i broke the left indicator cover so gotta fix that too.. and other electrical stuff most likely. nah but im not that much of a cheap ass.. its just that from where i was to where my house is would've easily been a $30 cab fare. maybe more depending on the driver or traffic.

Went down to Rotovegas for something to do. Bumped into Jungle and his boy's out in the bush doin prep for the lakes Safari

It got scarey after lunch when, by unanimous decision, the women voted themselves into the drivers seats, and the boys got to practise the fine art of tongue biting in the passengers seats.

Next time i'm packing a spare pair of undies
