What is it?

Post by lincooln »

Hi all, I got a replacement engine for my Mazda 626 and found that the replacement was just too different to work with out changing a lot of things.

I also now believe that it was a turbo, 12 valve fuel injected model not a carb model as i was told.

This came off it and I was wondering what it was?

To me it seems like it is a oil feed and return. It just went where the oil filter went then the oil filter went on afterwards. any idea's?

looks like a oil cooler that used radiator water to cool the oil

yep that is what it is I reckon, alot of euro engines have them as it also works in reverse on warm up and warms the oil quicker then keeps it close to coolant temp.

cool thanks. just out of curiosity would it work as an oil feed for a turbo or not?

no cause the jacket separates the coolant from the oil side so there is no pass through ( apart from heat)
