AIR injection system for rangies

Post by Athalus78 »

I was just reading my workshop manual and stumbled across the belt driven air injection system. Does anyone have one of these fitted to there rig as it sounds like a simple supercharger sytem. Any views or advice on the subject please let me know as I'm thinking of fitting one to my 5ltr Leyand for more power.

I was talking to some guys on the world range rover site and by the looks of it I'll be better off saving more money and buying a sprintex or even a whipple top mount super charger. But yeh it was built to help control emissions at the time. :)

check out rangie spares (aussi) or two off road (their nz agent)
they do a complete blower assy- around $5k
Also have a look at powerflow)?) superchargers (aussi) they also do them for rovers/leylands.

I worked out that if I put a Buick 300 crank shaft followed by some buick 300 heads and 3.9 landrover sleaves and pistons I should get almost 6ltrs
out of it. Then I'll fit the supercharger.

When all else fails sink the right boot

Given the Rover reputation for destroying axles diffs and CV's with a piss weak 3.5 ltr V8 what plans do you have for upgrading the drivetrain to avoid the carnage the first time you sink your right boot?

But Bodge, it would be mighty impressive.
How do you get on with 4.4ltr with running gear?

At the moment the standard running gear is holding up well to the 5ltr so with almost 6ltrs some slight adjustments to my driving style and I should be fine. The axles can be easily swapped for a nice set of maxi-drive lockers which the rear already has and as to CV's going all you have to do is lay of the loud peddle when your at, or close to full lock when turnning.. All else fails I'll have to steal and army Unimog and get the axels from that.

So far just a diff and a CV...

There was not a lot left of either of them as they were well grenaded...

To be fair though my 4.4 looks good on paper but the reality is that I doubt it puts out a much more power than a 3.5 in good nick on account of the fact that its flogged...

My chief encourager CT has a 90 with a V8 and he has chewed his way through multiple diffs including ARB's which are significantly stronger than the rover ones. Hes destroyed a lot of axles and CV's and also managed to shag R&P sets with ease with his carburetted [but well maintained] 3.5 - of course its all after market strengthened gear NOW....

Sorry guys but I've had no probs with the driveline but I tend to be gentle on the gas as I go and boot it when I need to. On the plus side I'm currently doing my home work to convert the 5ltr rangie to a 6ltr. Yes I know I have an issue with inches but which man doesn't

Hope you were touching wood...

The bigger you make that engine the more you are going to have to avoid using it if you don't build your running gear stronger... and there is something very wrong with that.
