Short 45 rebuild

Post by Fakey »

This is my new project, Its the one that muddy hilux was working on. It turned up on the truck yesterday. Battery was flat an clutch master cylinder is farked an works when it wants  but its my 1st v8 powered vehicle an it sounds awesome
As it arrived apart from the old 31s on the back for skids

An had to try doing a skid, bit too much grease on the pad but still good fun an sounded great

Had a bit of a look around it yesterday an decided it needs quite a bit done:
-engine gaskets replaced
-5 speed g/box fitted
-Chassis swap- its fatigued cracked an been butchered an a few places
-Body sand blastd an repaired (rust an damage)
-Roll cage, bar work an hillbilly light bar removed an redone when full fj45 roof is fitted
-The power steering needs to be completely done
-The engine needs to be moved forward about 50mm as it sits against the firewall
-Rear mounted radiator removed an one in engine bay plumbed up properly
-Front Brake lines replaced
-Full rewire maybe dash cut out an unmolested one welded back in
-Front an rear diffs will be replaced by larger coil sprung disc brake units
-Tube guards front for clearance an to cover the 36's
Will add to this list when I think of more sh#t it needs

Made a bit of a start today,
cut off all the bar work removed the light bar,
cut out the passengers seat (it was welded in)
revoved the harnesses,
removed the radiator lines that ran under the seats to the rear radiator an plumbed up the front radiator.
Checked that the airlocker in the rear diff actually works, it does its just not plumbed up
Cleaned out the years of sand an crap on the floor of the tub
Removed the winch an fairlead, winch isnt wired up an wont need it for a while.
Did some skids then put the 70's wheels on it an took it home
Bars etc removed

Wont be much more work. Ill need new d/shafts to suit the new diffs an the front ones yokes are so worn they would fall out if used in 4x4  An the engine is coming out as well so I can rework the mounts to move it forward at the same time as the tub is away getting blasted etc etc etc

I was thinking about buying this truck before I got stuck into the bush truck - V8, Winch, locka, and tyres make a nice list of accessories... but after reading your to-do list I'm kinda glad its you taking on this project.

Once your done with it I'm sure it will be an awesome truck - sounds real nice   Good stuff
