Hi all.. just want to know if i can get my hands on a 1991 land cruiser 70 series but have a dodgy 2.4L diesel engine. would it be a straight swap over if i am to find and put a 3L 1KZ-TE diesel motor in it.. will the engine mount etc fit directly or do i have to make some up??

You could probably bolt in a 3L (2.8 Diesel) or 5L (3.0 Diesel) both come as naturally aspirated in Hilux or Hiaces.

The bellhousing and gbox on 1kz is different pretty sure so is the transfer or the diff ratios.. But not 100% sure, if I were u i'd chuck. 3l 2.8 n/a motor at it as ur gearbox will work but then if u miss boost bolt all the turbo gear off ur 2.4 onto it..
Just my 2c
Thanks Adam

The 3L never came in the prado, just the 2Lt 2.4 and the 1KZ which is a 3 litre motor. The 3L is a different motor and was in Hilux/Surf/Hiace

iv come across before, when some people refer to a 3
L (2.8 Diesel) they assume it is the 3
LITRE engine 1kzt. it confused me a little at first until i got found out

No, its written above.
A 3L motor is a 2.8 litre non turbo motor
a 2L motor is a 2.4 litre non turbo motor
a 2LT is a 2.4 litre turbo
a 5L motor is a 3.0 litre non turbo motor
a 1KZ is a 3 litre turbo, not a 3L or a 5L!!!! A totally new motor than the 3L, not even the same capacity, and the capacity is the only thing in common with a 5L and a 1KZ
3L is an engine code.

Well my bad for being lazy . when i put 3L i wasnt referring as the engine code but more for 3Litre .hence when i first asked the question i put down the engine code as the 1kz-te engine is the one that i want to ask to replace the 2.4 diesel engine as there is a land cruiser prado 70 series body on trade me with a dodgy motor.
oh another note. there is a land cruiser prado with the 1kz-te 3litre turbo motor done 260000kms, auto. is there anything i should look for when i go look at the car? mechanical side of things that is.
cheers

for the LJ/KZJ Cruisers the gearboxes should be the same, changing between 2.4 TD(2lt/2lte) and 3L TD (1kzte) may require different bellhousings and engine mounts, the running gear is the same.
All of the above motors will crack a head at some stage, the non turbo 2.8 could be an option, could look at a commy v6 or a 1uzfe conversion as well
