Super Swamper Iroks

Post by doddzee »

Anyone know a Super Swamper Dealer that sells Iroks? I have tried a couple of places and they cant seem to get them.

Or has anyone else got any sugestions on a good winch truck tyre that will perform well on hard sliperly clay/rock aswell (seem to have a bit of that around here) around the 36x13.5 size for 15x8 beadlock rims apart from Simexs.

What about the BFG Krawler KAs? Best thing since sliced bread according to a lot of the yank rock teams. Only about 47 squillion dollar each last time I asked KATs in Kaiapoi... (Call Shane, 0800 80 KATS, tell him Steve from 4WD Stuff told you to call... he'll add 10% to your price and get a good laugh in the process :P)

The Iroks seem to have no tread on them as a factory design... haven't read much about them, but would be interested to see how they work.

KATS can get the Swamper stuff, but they are just buying them from the importers same as everyone else... can't remember the new guys, used to be TRS agrityre, A plus tyres now or something like that?

Imho the Irok is a very good rock crawling tyre, but tread depth is a worry for mud. Having said that tho, Grant Guy won the Rotorua challenge on them I think. Ultimate setup.....35x11.5 simexes for the challenges and 39.5 x 13.5 Iroks for rock crawling!
'85 Hilux crawler, 3rz, duals, 4.7's, 4.88's, ARB's, 30 spline Longfields, 6 stud SNR4x4 Histeer, Airshocks up front, coiled rear, 40" Iroks.
^^^this shite is all about to change....^^^

Im not a big fan of the simexs, alot of the tracks around here are hard clay and the simexs dont seem to perform very well compared to Creepy Crawlers and Baja Claws (two tires i am finding hard to get my hands on at the right size aswell).

http://www.offroaders.com/tech/AT-MT-Ti ... -TA-KX.htm has a few reviews, i was looking at the bfg as one of my options but havent seen any in the flesh yet.

You'd be lucky to get 10,000K out of the Krawlers, they are a competition Rock tyre not much cop in the mud.

After doing a but of reading over the last couple of weeks a few people seemed to have this view and the 35's only measure just over 34" is why i sold them.

Has anyone has experence with the Super Swamper TSL's?

why not go for the new silverstone extreme? probably the most aggressive tyre around more depth and more open lugs than the trekker. very similar pattern, i think they only come in 35-10.5 x16.

I have been to tonys, patch rubber and dave hadleys and i can only get the Tsl's or boggers, the importer has stoped bringing the iroks in so thats off my list. I cant get the 37x12.5x15 creepys either for the same reason, I can get them from overseas but it will take 8-12 weeks and the price was a little over the top, there doesnt seen to be the demand in NZ :( .

I already have a set of 15x8 beadlocks so that cancels our the 16' range unless i change rims.

Im tossing up between
35x12.5x15 Creepy
36x12.5x15 Tsl Swamper
35x13.5x15 BFG Krawler
Or go for the simex that everyone seems to run

Probly best that I have a good look at tyres wile im over at the OBC and decide when i get back.

When I've seen a simex type tyre(mongral, simex or silverstone) come up against Creepys the simex allways wins (I don't run either so thats an impartial view) especially in mud clay.

Creepys have a very stiff side wall and really need to be run on bead locked rims to get the best out of them. They work ok but they need to be kept spinning flat out to clear mud/clay from the cleats where as a simex type clears at very slow revs.

I might know where there are 37/13.5x 15 Creepies new, never been run and also may be able to source some near new 35/12.5x15 8) PM if keen

I do think simexs are a very good tyre and they are getting higher on my list with the un avalabilty of they tyres in the right sizes i would like to give a go.

What is everyones thoughts on the triple block 12.5 simex vs the double block 11.5 simex? I have read that the double block clear better?

most guys using the triple blocks wish they had stayed with the twin block.
they are a bit narrower and clear better you also get better steering. go for the 35-11.5x15 they measure up just over 35 ". see if you can borrow sum for a try out on a greasy hill or go to a few rallies and events . i have found the 35 simexes and the silverstones to be the best mud tyre going by rallies.

Personal experience of Simex (ET1, 35x10.5x15) vs Creepies (37x12.5x16):
Simex are better in mud by approx 10-25%* (*25% = clay mud) and clear at lower revs. Creepies generally require more revs to clear, and the tread pattern clogs in clay mud. Having said that, the Creepies kick Simex ass on snow, rocks, river beds, sand, dry clay, etc.

All hardcore tyres represent a compromise; am presently running the 37 Creepies and would be reluctant to part company ... keenly eyeing a dedicated set of Boggers for the mud (if only we could get the 38's easily in NZ).

Doddzee its good that you will be looking at tyres at the OBC - but remember that over there you will see different terrain to what we run here in NZ/North Island/Wellington.

What you should of done is come along to the winch challenges with me over the past few years and see the tyres that the winch trucks run here in NZ.
There will be a few drivers from NZ winch challenges going with us to OBC, so maybe you can talk it through with them as well

Not long now for our big trip - see you at club night

This the thing that puts me off the simex as it isnt always mud, No tyres will do everything though! Guess i should get the tyre that will help me out the most in the comps.

Worthog are you rinning the 10.5's or the 11.5's?
