drive shaft into rear diff leaking oil

Post by pajeroboy »

hi all, just kinda noticed over te last few weeks that there is a little bit of oil leaking out from where the drive shaft conects to the rear diff on my pajero swb, possibley thought that the seals maybe on there wayout, how hard a jobto replace them is it,and what kind of seals are they?would i have to drain diff oil and refill?(dont really want to as ive just changed it few weeks ago)

any ideas would be a good help

It is probably your pinion seal, park on the flat in neutral and H/B off, chock front wheels, grab the D/S and see if the flange will move up and down. If so the pinion flange is loose, if not check the oil isn't coming out between the D/S and flange indicateing an oil leak down the spline.
You don't need to drain the oil as long as you don't jack the back up.
Check the pinion flange for wear, it may need a speedi sleeve.
