Looking at 1988 BJ74 auto
Hi All currently looking at swapping my LN107 HIlux for a BJ74 cruiser in auto. Have done the search thing here but only come up with small bits of info. What i need is some abjective coments regards good points, weaknesses etc for this type of truck. it has the 3.4 13bt motor with 229000 ks (vir shows speedo wound back about 12000). I will be using this as a club truck for trips around the south island, so usual mods 33"s' snorkel, diff breathers etc. Look forward to all constructive coments

A good all round truck. Bit of a tractor engine but things can be done to make them go better.
Running gear is pretty strong in them. I'm assuming it's the FRP top mid wheel base. Always good to have heaps of fibreglass instead of steel on the body of a cruiser. The rust will attack back of the front guards like many cruisers. Windscreen will most likely leak.
They rattle like all cruisers seem to. Especially when you put a cage on the inside of them.
The glove box is absolutely useless as everything falls on the floor when ever you open it. This can also be fixed.
They are easy to work on. Great to modify with aftermarket stuff easily available. They look great with big feet.
As you can tell I don't have many bad things to say about them.

Sounds alot like mine only mines done 100000ks more

but its a good basic machine thats easy to fix an theres heaps of bits around for them

35"s rub quite a bit with no lift
but 33's fit great.
Just got some 33" wranglers to go on this week instead. Pretty much goin to use it for shiny trips an my daily driver
