Hi All. just wondering if any one has done a whole 3" system for their 1kz-te motor? what sort of $$$ did you guys pay and in your opinion is it worth the $$$.. currently own a 1993 prado and got quote around $1k , flexi alone was quoted $200..

Got a 3" Rage kit on my 90 goes good ... retail for the bolt on kit is 879 but theres no listing for the earlier ones...
do a search on here for 1kzte dump pipes as well and look at removing your EGR system..... A Pyro meter is recommended as well.....

Is the flexi needed? my mate that has a LJ78 like my one took his off as he said the motor is North south config so not required compare to an East west config engine. my local muffler shop didnt even mention what sort of muffler is included in the price other than he insist on the $200 flexi in the system.. the other muffler shop in my town would be pit stop and i rather have no muffler than to go to them.

yes you want a flexi. otherwise with the rocking of the motor the pipes will crack, even on a north south motor.

It would appear that I got my sizes confused (or they did, but it has been a while - three months

), that price was for a 2.5" system (bugger). Still going to do it but will get the biggest dump pipe I can and then go 2.5 with free flow etc...

a 2.5" is fine on a 1kzte and def do the dump pipe. chuck in one of those hotdog (coby style) with the flutes that face the front on the inside they are cheaper than cobys and the same sans a bit of red paint. not to droney and make a good difference to power. as an example, i used to get caught between 3rd and 4th gears on a hill near my home running 31 inch tyres and now i can sit in 4th gear on 33s whole lot cost me 350 in parts but i did all the work myself and used weld elbows to put it together

i made it from weld elbows and bought the flange from autobend
http://www.offroadexpress.co.nz/Forums/ ... 46&t=16440do you have any mates that are welder/fabbers and want a perk?
buy the bits and find someone you can bribe to have one made. theres usually some one who needs a few dollars extra. another couple of people on here have made one for themselves

Got a good price from Pit stop (yes I was surprised too) and as they have a garrantee on their work I can get it sorted in Chch if need be. Going with 3 inch.
Can anyone confirm the turbo in my 96 prado is a ct12B? Gotta sort out a flange, might just get one made up to suit but didnt want to buy one nad find its wrong. Autobend didnt have any instock - bugger so 5 day wait. Going to get the rear sorted into 3 inch (from the dump back) and they will remove the factory dump, make a template and then put the factory one back on, untill the flange is made (then a quick job to whip in the new one later).

It should be the same turbo as mine Heath.
You can use my factory housing as a template.
Save pulling yours to bits just to take a template.
I got the last flange from Autobend....
Let me know what you want to do.
Home most of the weekend.

Thanks Calvin,
I figured that might be the case but thought I would check.
There is a water jet guy on the shore that will whip one up from a template and they are going to do that with my dump pipe (that way there is no chance of a mistake). Will take an extra week but will be worth it in the end to get it exactly right. Will be interesting to see what difference a larger system makes with the restrictive dump pipe still on and then with a free flow system on.
Was tempted to go 2.75 but I was told they dont have that size in mandrel bends (not by pitsop so maybe I should have asked again - I'll ask when I go in.).
I am happy with the 3 inch, it might be a slightly too big but bettr that then too small and I can always restrict its flow with a smaller end piece of chrome bling!! For me this is less about performance and more about getting the heat away from the head. But of course a little more performance will be nice

you could try atlas specialty metals for bends

Going to go bigger and if it's a pig I'll sort it later. Can always sell the 3" system to someone else for cheap (get some $$$ back) or keep it and get a bigger turbo and /or increase boost.

I guess my exhaust got to be put on the back burner, after i did a full service the other day, the next day i notice a bit of white smoke coming out of the exhaust pipe.. after a bit of play around i have decided that i might have a head problem, radiator is emptied and the over flow tank is full, put some more water in and let it idle for a bit then let it cool only to find over flow tank goes up and radiator itself is low. also during idling i notice the oil warning light came on a few times...
oh well time to see what the damage is on monday.

Had the section from the dump pipe to the exhaust tip done today in 3". Sounds a little rumbly (bit of an echo at the moment), but that may just be me hearing something that I expect to hear. From in th cab it sounds fine, just a little rumble but the tyres cover that noise up.
Got to get the dump done next and I hope it will remove the echo (might be in my head though) in the pipes (could be that 3" is too big as Bulletproof suggested) at idle, at full noise it is fine, a nice low rumble growl.
Have a few things I would like to get done before I get the front pipe done (injectors and glowplugs) but will get on to it soon as I can rustle up a flange for the rear of the turbo (autobend in Chch dont have any in stock so I have to get one made up here). I am going to see if I can get some steam pipe like Kbushnz (Calvin) used, the exhaust place might hate me but I want it done right and the guy who was doing the work said to stay away from the cheap thin ones as they dont last (he has made a few for his own racecar and only uses heavy gauge steel now). I guess I will chase up bits at northshore steel etc and see what they have in the off cuts bin. Unless of course someone has some bits laying around they dont want.

How much did it cost for your 3" exhaust system?
Re: 1kz-te Exhaust

$780 so far. Cost a bit more then they expected cause of all the bends and welding. Of course I get a 5 year warranty( and flybuys too, but that wasnt the reason I went with these guys).

definately worth doing exhaust and dump ipe in 3 inch, did it to my old kzn130 and it had ALOT more power down low, and get one massive straight though muffler, not a coby style one, they dont do shit, way too droney
