Hey all, i want to repower my samurai with a 1993 nissan laurel 2.6l diesel engine, was wondering if there is any one else who has done a repower, what problems you encountered, things to take into consideration and just general help tips.
Any help is appreciated.
Cheers

seems like it would be a lot of work, ya would need to adapt the engine to the box, clutch stuff etc... would be quite expensive, not to mention very heavy
A common conversion would be to use a G13b out of a cultis or swift, which I believe bolts straight to the bellhousing

. Even if the motor was free I would not do it . It will be way to bit and way too heavy . I had a samurai with a 2ct toyota diesel and that was heavy in the front , you could feel it there and have to account for it in the way you drove it . I never put it in but it was a tight fit . this would be as big as you would want to go I would say , maybe the 1n series would be better or I have heard of a few isuzu genini diesels in suzuki's .

Tru i didnt even think about the weight

. Do you think a 1988 toyota 1.8 1c would suit?

Put a toyota 4age in it you wont look back. Cheap readily available and they go well.

yeh the rd28 ( i guess that what you mean) out of the laurels are way to big and waaaaayyyy to heavy for a zook. Do what mrO said or otherwise by one of
these and put a vitara engine in, cheap, heaps around, go good use original parts, easy to wire up

If you want easy go with one of the suzuki options above.
If you have good fab skills or deep pockets for a conversion go 1600cc-2000cc 4 cylinder jap motor. I have a CA18DE in mine and there are a few 4age ones around. Lots of work though.

if you really want a diesel , then a VW 1.9TDi would be my pick.

Not exactly a common engine but I guess you can get a kit from the states to put it in , if they still do them .
It you want a diesel go with a 1 or 2ct . I doubt there is any difference in size so may as well go with a 2ct ( or a 3ct

) . It will be heavy thou but with a t50 box it will beat fxgt's of the lights , but does run out of rev's about 130 kph , will still pull but must be doing a million rpm , lucky I never had a rev counter to know for sure .
Another option ( but not a good engine in my opinion and yes I have had one , went faultlessly too

) is to get a mazda rf diesel and the auto box out of the gen 2 vitara , split of the t/case as I am sure they are a similar box to the 1.6 etc as you can get kits to fit them to a zuk easily( gearbox that is ) . If funds are unlimited go the peugot and same box out of a grand vitara .
