Auto free wheel hubs
Auto free wheel hubs
My Suzuki Escudo hubs "pop" on steep gradents. Is there a recon for these or do i spend $340 on manual hubs?

dont want to steal the thread here but have been thinking of getting some manual hubs for my surf too - what happens with the electronic push button when you install them? do you still need to push this in when the hubs are locked so the computer recognises the trucks in 4wd or does this just become obosolete?
Also is it a very complicated swap ie with some decent tools a few hours in the shed and a box of beer your average joe could install these?

[quote=]"ONOescudo"I took the caps off my auto hubs yesterday, got the wife to drive back and foward in 4wd and you could see and hare the buggers pop in and out on every pass.[quote]
That's pretty much how auto hubs work. Watched a Vit trying to get out of a hole while back, he was giving it heaps backwards and forwards and his auto hubs were slapping in and out every time went from 1st to reverse.
If you don't want to break your auto hubs or something worse
Turf them for some manual hubs.

On mine yes, but if I can find a wiring diagram I could get rid of it...

Pretty easy, just take your time... oh and if they need grease use marine (waterproof) grease..
Another thing is not to use too much grease... and if they are superwinch ones, no grease at all, just a coating of engine oil
If you have auto hubs you may need spacers to fit manual ones.

Think the Surfs don't need the spacers, but why put manual hubs on? ADD is relatively pain-free, it works worlds better than auto hubs, you don't have to get out in the cold and mud to lock it, etc...
To be honest, I'd just leave it alone... theres no great advantage in manual hubs for an ADD truck unless you have a lokka or something in the front.
As for the Vitara/Escudo... pretty sure I can get manual hubs for those too...
