Hi There I am new stuck up here in auckland i have purchased a hilux surf in the last few weeks as realy want to get in to a bit of 4wd it is standard currently but i am looking at doing a bit over the next few months my first question is tyre i currently have at 265 75 15 on it and am wanting to get a new set as these are shot i have been looking at maxxis 31 10.5 15 but want to know most of my driving is on road and 4wd play in the weekends but i dont know what sort of tyre i should get but i dont want to get stuck again so should i go with an at or a mud tyre any help please also i am wanting to raise it a bit where can i purchase a lift kit from as i think it would be nice to have new springs etc

If your doing alot of road driving and going offroad at the weekend and only want 1 set of tyres id segest a "Cooper st" they are a very good AT tyre and preform good in mud and clay for a AT tyre. or have two sets of tyres as i do, 1 set AT or road tyres and 1 set MT tyres

what model of surf?
and do you want a spring lift or body-lift?

hi after a spring lift first as i think this would be better and the springs and suspension in it are old and proberly worn but what is best really its a 1992 ssrx 2.4 turbo diesel auto standard

Hey welcome mate, i would get get a get of road tyres and a set of muds, I have on mine and its fine. No point in waring down good mud tyres.

also have you thought about joining a club? and have you been to Woodhill?

na havent been to wood hill but is on the to do list but whats a good club i would be interested

where in auckland are you

Well I belong to Norwest OHV Club, We are mostly based around north est Auckland, but have quite a few members on the shore or even further south,

Shore Four wheelers is a good club too, but is more into shiny trips and family runs,

Auckland is another club, Manukau club,

May have missed one but those are the main clubs.

I had a mate with 31`s and he was a bit dissapointed with em, Snorks got 32`s, and i`ve got 33`s. might pay to look at a few Surfs, and see what tickles your fancy?

I`d prolly keep your road tires as is, and buy a new set of rims and tires for playtime.

the 2.4 is real sluggish when you put bigger tires on, so thats something to take into consideration.

ye i was thinking of engine swaps down the track i little bit maybe the 1kzte or the 1uzfe v8 but have also just seen a comi engine in one so

Spend good money on good tyres and decent MT's will last you the best part of 80 000 kms (have had BFG's go 100k before). Road manners are not quite as good, but you adjust pretty quickly. Even if it costs ya $1600, it is still cheaper than 2 sets of boots and another set of rims, and the PITA factor of changing them when you want to go play.

rok, thats cos the rolling circumference of your tyres is 3.6 metres..

ye i think i would like to get 2 set then i can get a bigger mud tyre
