205 R 16 tyres, too big for my ute?

Have a 2 wheel drive single cab D21 petrol Navara ute, with 16 inch steel wheels. (not standard I guess?) anyway it has snow tyres at 205 55 16 which are frankly useless for braking. Can I fit 205 R 16 tyres, or are they too tall? Will be getting used for firewood/towing/general driving but no off road type work. Have searched the net but no definitive answers, hopefully one of you guys can help. Cheers.
