Which would be the better truck out of the two?

This one or the first one?

Me and the bro are thinking of going halves in one of these puppies.

Definitely the first one it looks way better.
Toyota Landcruiser FJ40, front and rear lockers, 35" simex.
Toyota FJ45 build in progress.
Tires are like boobs, they always look big until you have played with them for a while, then you just want a bigger set.

I'm liking the Lexus powered buggy myself. But I'm real keen to hear what others think.
Cheers for any feedback.

The only reason we wanna buy a trials buggy is. Because we wanna enter it in events.
Bro has a donor FJ40 in his back paddock. And I've suggest we build one from that. But he suggested we buy one already built. The work's been done. Jump in and trial it.

Probably not what you want to here, but if you want to race and be compedative build one and do it yourself (or at least help alot) You buy a truck you dont know it breaks and you dont know where to start. I have seen it happen, guys out of an event cause they didn't know how to fix it.

As for the above trucks first one to trial, thuderguts for nostalga or cool factor.
Toy - Zuk chassis tub, hilux 4.88 axles and transfer, Nissan CA18DE motor and auto trans, sc12 supercharger, 32 10'5 simex, twin motor 8274 custom freespool. Well the parts are all there in various corners of the shed

I'm sure if/when it breaks. We'll find the weak points and either strengthen it or learn how to fix it ourselves. I doubt we couldn't build something like this for less that it cost to buy it complete.
I don't mind learning curves.

I know it pisses people off buying something out right and using it without building it from the ground up yourself. Kinda like a cheque book build aye.
But if we don't buy it, someone else will.

It does look like the business.

The first truck is owned by (& built by) Trevor Deans (I'm pretty sure that's the surname) it's a very capable truck but has been built more for Teams recovery rather than trials as such......although I'm sure if you swapped the tyres it'd be a reasonable D-class truck.

If you want his Ph send me a pm

Pete, if you pay someone to do all the build for you it will cost a sh!t load more to build rather than buy complete.

From what I know of you (dont take offense) I would recommend you buy a completed truck because:
1. Cheaper than paying someone to build one for you - and often cheaper than doing it yourself if you buy well.
2. Much faster - its ready now!
3. You will learn about the truck as you break it - even the strong trucks break in the trials

There are a couple of other options out there.

Have you seen the PDL truck that has been on trademe lately?

or this one:
http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motor ... 374081.htm

Just my 2c anyway.

I agree.
We did see that PDL truck. Nice setup. But being petrol heads we're more interested in a V8 rig.
I'll be looking into a couple of cheap flight tickets for a mate and I to check this Lexus thing out this week.

Thought you might say that.

To give you something to compare the above one to:
This one is supercharged

Or you could get a $100k Dan Cowper truck

Prett cool truck. But we're not into the Pajereo's. Much prefer the purpose built buggy. $100k for the Cowper rig is nuts. I'm sure it's worth it but under $20k suits us fine thanks.

This is well setup truck to.
But we don't need a road registered truck. The fella has gone all out with it though. I bet it owes him more than the asking price.

The think I like about the first buggy is the approach angles. Being able to climb vertical objects without the front end (or rear end) obstructing anything.

Been doing a search regarding, "Teams Recovery" events.
This was the first page I found. Funny enough Trevor's truck is shown in it.

http://www.nz4wd.co.nz/afa.asp?idWebPag ... =313654743

Spoke with the dude this morning.
He's taking the truck into town to get compression checks among a few other tests done on it for me.
Not going to bother flying up to view it now. It'll cost $1000 for me and a mate to get there and back.

Hey Pete

just wondering what exactly you want the truck for? Is it for fun mud plug events or are you looking at coming up to play in the nationals? The reason I ask is t makes a HUGE difference as to what you should be looking at.

Hi Furgus.

I was wondering when someone was going to ask this question. :D

What exactly did we want this type of truck for? First and foremost, to have fun in.
We'd like to enter it in the Sheffield Mud Plug, the next Hanmer Mud Plug, Thermal Thunder, any south island winch challenges. Basically any type of event like that in the south island.
I understand there are plenty of events in the North island we could enter in. But the thought of paying for ferry crossings and driving that far at this stage? It's not going to happen yet. We'd like to learn how to walk before we can run, if you know what i mean?
At the end of the day. If we own it for a few seasons and find out we're not into it, or are just farken useless in events and STOP having fun? We hope to sell it and not lose much money if the truck is still in good shape.

Cheers,
Pete.
