Hey all, I have just done a head replacement and didn't think at the time about putting new bolts in. do you think it is worth it? and am I able to just take out the old bolts and put the new ones in? I know about removing them and doing them up in sequence and all that.

I know it sounds like a dumb question but if you dont ask you dont learn.

oh and what causes an engine to become an oil burner? is it just worn piston rings? Mine uses a little bit of oil, like 50ml a week, is that excessive? or should I have had them replaced when I was doing the head replacement?

If the engine has torque-to-yield (TTY) head bolts, replace them. Reusing TTY bolts is risky because you have no way of knowing how far they are been stretched. Also, make sure you have the latest head bolt torque specs. Vehicle manufacturers often revise their original head bolt torque specs to correct problems that have arisen in the field. The new specs can be found in technical service bulletins (TSBs) from the manufacturers.

What Motor??

Rule of thumb is if you pull the head off you use new head studs.

Some manufacturers state you can use studs again X amount of times but for the small price you pay for new studs compared to replacing the new head you just replaced I think it's worth it...

Its a mazda FE 2.0L 8 valve.

so its alright to pull the used ones and just put the new ones in?
