Do u need certification for the 3" calmini suspension lift kit as i have heard different opinions. also is there anything that i have to do once i install it, i have heard about blowing CVs and diffs and having to lower the diff to cope with the extra lift. certs are quiet expencive so dont want to get caught with lots of extra cost and also want to do a 2" headers and exhaust system will this neeed cert as well??
any info helpful
cheers

Sj413 or vitara? If it's the vitara kit , you are replacing oem suspension arms, steering components and altering factory geometry and technicaly require a cert.
Exhaust and headers won't need a cert.
Ring your local cert guy and see what he will sign off .

I found this page a while ago, brilliant information regarding certification.
http://www.lvvta.org.nz/index.htmlI'm surprised your fitting a calmini 3" lift kit (around $2k) and worried about the price for a cert.
Getting into an accident and not having insurance because it's not certed is also quite expensive.
UBZ's advice to go have a chat with your local cert guy is very good advice.
good luck
Hein

Neil Fraser in Birkenhead certed my escudo with the calmini kit+body lift. No problems at all, only my early model one wasn't fitted with a brake proportioning valve, which had to be put on after he test drove it, went back few days later he attached the plate.

That's good to know, I live in Birkdale and was intending to take my Vitara to Neil to cert in a few weeks. Did you contact him before doing the mods or just show up when the work was all done ?

The calmini 3" suspension kit comes with extended diff mounts to lower the front diff.
The cert for this is either $400 + GST or $450 + GST, plus cost for inspection time (the Gore certifier charges $160 for two trips to Queenstown). Might be able to coincide it with inspections of other vehicles (eg ours...) to keep costs down.
Why the move to a 3" calmini system? Don't you have 2" already?
Cheers
Ross

Captive market maybe. when I got mine done ages ago it was around $400+. Maybe he doesnt like doing them so charges high for the hassle.

Gutted, Neil Fraser is about 1km from my place, but will consider driving a few km if it saves me $100!

theres not many around auckland I dont think, Neil was a real good guy. Hes done alot of offroad certs aswell which is good and Im sure he will tell you when you go to get your cert but he used to have a samurai with a 4age.
Apparently though most of the cost is the cert plate itself which is pricey
