I normally take it off at the lights and push the button back in when my car accelerate off the mark.. I believe that you will use more fuel if u use over drive when u move off from stationary. But thats just me.. :D

OD doesn't come in until you are up thru the gears..
So from the lights has no effect.

OD is basically 4th gear .

I find that at 50-60kph the truck seems to labour a bit with OD on.
Turn it off and it drops down a gear. Revs come up.

I only use my over drive when im driving over about 80km on the flat.
Its better if you rev a diesel a bit as opposed to having it labour.Reving it will keep your EGT & trans temps down.Same as using low range when doing any slow 4wding.

If OD doesnt come in till its up thru gears ? why does my truck feels like its pulling better from stationary to speed when its OD is off compare to if OD is on?

It isn't, its just your imagination

Fuel economy in a diesel is all related to the position of your foot on the accelerator.

If using OD around town means that you don't have to put your foot down as far on the pedal to maintain a particular speed, then use it.

If you have to put your foot down further to maintain the speed after switching OD on, then don't use it, it's is less economical.

you sure you don't have a pwr button ? ie power button which changes gear shifting pattern so it lets it rev out more so you can take off faster.

afaik on those surfs OD is just another gear. some of the toyotas are so low gear geared you have to have OD on to get over 80km/h ! LOL
i would just leave it on unles going down steep hills and want the gearbox to drop a gear to hold you back.

my surfs OD is always on except when pulling a trailor up a decent hill then i turn it off just befoore the bottom of the hill to assist in keeping the revs up.

regarding full eco usage with only needing to toe the gas peddle around town with OD on it has to be using less fuel then with OD off and the peddle a little further down, makes sence realy,

1 note thou is that if you are after quick reactions then the motor will be more sluggish in OD and have to move down to second rather in drive moving to second

just my 2 cents worth anyways
