Hi Guys.
My poor old 88 Safari is starting to make some more weird noises!
Occasionally when taking off (in 2wd) the front diff makes a loud knock/banging noise which can be felt right through the drive train.
It has done it a few times quite some time ago but only seem to do it after backing out the drive turn almost full lock then driving forward, back then backing off the gas was enough to make it stop. Lately it has been doing it more frequently and I now have to reverse up a bit for it to stop.
The old girl still has the auto hubs which I guessing these could be causing the problem. I’m only thinking this because reversing unlocks the hubs.
Any other ideas of what this could be? Could be a good excuse to get some manual hubs but the miss’s ain't going to be happy!
Cheers
Craig

Re: Front diff knock/banging
could be the hubs(most likley)sometimes the low range lever can enguage 4wdhigh(light wont come on)esp if the vehicle has had a body lift.
Re: Front diff knock/banging
It's the hubs. I run an auto lokka up front, and run a nissan auto hub on the right and superwinch one on left. Mine does this as the auto hub engages occassionally. Mine does the same bang.
