Evening all
just wondering about my surf 1kzte with 2 batteries and wondering how they are set up and if the two are needed? of so why are two needed? then if not can they be set up in a 'dual battery' set up eg one isolated to run fridge lights etc at camp and the other one to do the starting in the morning??
any help appreciated

The two battery set-up is for Cold climate specs. (more CCA's) And is still 12V.
You can use just one if required for starting. (750 CCA or more)
The most rearward one has all the fuse-able links and power supply.
The second spot is great for a winching battery or deep cycle for running accessories as you suggest.

If you take the batteries out it will be written on the side somewhereto tell you ....most often are around 600 CCA
Cold Climate is north japan.... sometimes reffered to as "Winter Pack"

Surfs are set up a bit different to prados.
Batteries are on the left and right hand sides. Still wired together in parallel to provide heaps of CCA to turn the 90amp starter in cold climates ,ie 0deg starts. drivers side has connection to alternator and fuse box , passenger side has connection for starter motor.
I separated mine with a dual batterie setup , but have reverted back to stock as i was killing batteries on really cold start
2x NS70 or equivalant batteries is what your after

Hehhe didn't read post slowly.... as to which vehicle the 1kzte was in....
I did use a 1000 CCA battery a few years ago...
Was a big un, only just fitted in the hole.
I think you could have driven off on the starter alone
