thought I'd get the ball rolling...
bad w.e this one, me being a lazy c**t has led to me having to spend thousands on something I can't see!!

I WAS, being the keyword as I learnt my lesson the hard way, slack at that whole check your oils after crossing rivers once your home is a must do.. my rear diff started to whine.. so thought i'd check the oil, must have filled with water at some point :( and me being me kept driving soon the oil/water turned to a gritty sludge, and we all know what that does to bearings.. lol

few pics of the oil/sludge I drained..

Extend your diff breathers, its easy with the prado diffs, just pull the existing breather pipe off and extend it with some fuel pipe.

it already runs up the rear pillar inside the cab mate, my diff head gasket failed and was leaking I'm guessing it may have come thru there?

am going to not use a gasket when putting back together, might just get surfaces real clean and use loctite red gasket goo stuff..

Before you put it back together make sure you clean out the diff really well. There might possibly be surface rust on the top where water has got at the steel. There was alot on mine last week when i replaced my bearings.

Started fitting fan for intercooler, have made up a loom and relay.
Fitted it up, all looks good. Next is in cab switch.
Then test it out.
Will update my DIY intercooler thread later.

Switch Added on Sunday.... Dash getting cluttered with switches now. Looks like the flight deck of a 747...

Got to tidy up wiring with cable ties...

Test temps on the way to work Monday Avo.

Fitted a nice wee Uniden UHF radio to the 40 and dug out a pile of wiring and a relay that weren't doing anything(I hope :) ). Greased a few of the grease nipples.
Now to try and trace a wiring fault stopping the heater fan, oil, fuel and temp gauges from working.
It's not raining for once, yay!

Not 4wd related but I had my first open home (so the process has started) Not many through (over 500 veiws on TM - going private), but it only needs one (the right one) to be sold I guess.

Chased up a turbo flange for my exhaust. Seems no-one has one in stock (even auto bend have none) so I'll get one made up here (cost a little more) and then I can get the heavy pipe fiddled with to fit and tacked together. Gotta get a flexi put in the exhaust too (dont like it at the mo, little too rattley for me). Still trying to figure out which suspension bushes need relpacing (wd40ing them one set at a time to find the noisy ones (might be all of them by the tests so far - but I havent finished yet).

Nice, don't give in and go for using an agent. We sold our place on Trademe a few years ago, only had 3 people through and a family from Auckland looking to move down here bought it after only a couple of weeks advertising. Good luck.

What is the trick with the wd40? I've got quite a few worn bushes and joints on my 60 series and don't really want to have to strip everything to find out which.
Cheers.

Isolate the bushes and do one set/pair at a time. drive it for a day or so to see if the wd40 /crc has made a difference to the squeak. if not move on to the next one. Got to leave it for a few days between though incase it takes a while for the lube to get to the right place.  Mines driving me Bloody insane. Sounds like I have a family of gigantic rodents under my wagon at the moment. I could just take it in and pay someone to do it but wheres the fun in that. Might replace the ones I can (sway bar) and later pay someone to do the harder ones.

I put my L200 onto its side at Red Rocks this morning.
No glass broken (incl mirror) just a couple of dented panels and a couple of tyres flat. Many thanks to the Palmy and Welly ORE teams who sorted me out, and to Skid for the tows in the sand.

First roll, won't be the last........

Most common way for it to get in is if when your diff housing is hot an you go into water the housing cools along with the air inside it creating a vacuum which will draw water in anywhere it can seals gaskets etc, thats why some people run positive pressure into their diffs an gearbox

Had a pretty great day round the south coast today, cheers to everyone who came along an to mike for a bit of entertainment  Got a few pics so ill put them up when i get a chance

Dropped the front diff oil only find half of one of four lokka locating pin. front diff full of water as well. Pulled hubs and axles apart, water not getting in anywhere there. pulled front diff out, all four locating pins were broken. Not sure how it was working but it was. It has been broken for some time. get a kit tomorrow, back in by wedneday. Turns out water getting in through crack in breather tube.

FInally started the mission of installing wheel carrier type rear door to my hilux.
Got the door on..but thats the easy bit.
Spent hours getting off the plastic bit where the key goes. Turns out its in the way of my tow hook when the tailgate is down..so will section it then weld it back together. Also took apart the key cylinder in new door & put the internals of my original lock inside.
Tomorrow will start reassembling the interior ( had to take heaps out to get to where you unplug the tailgate.

Finished my sliders off and I'm quiet happy how they turned as i tried hard to keep them up nice and high without building the Trailgear style sliders, and i found out the hard way how much steel can warp with the welding heat as i tacked everything up on the truck then pulled them off to fully weld up thinking the 4.2mm thick pipe wouldnt warp to much  but they moved a little but sweet as.!!

Then after trying to fix its shite idle i went for a quick play at the river and found 2 stuck trucks at 5:30pm so pulled them out, they would of been there all night otherwise.!!

Yeah I know, I need to pare back the spending, but hey why the hell not! I hope these ones dont make as much noise as the old ones. got enough squeaks fom underneath.
