Hi guys

Looking at a 94 SWB Bighorn as a work hack for my FIL - it's being sold with 33/15/14.5 Mickey Thompsons Baja Belted tyres on 15 by 10 inch aluminium rims - they look pretty beastie, would the be ok to drive on the road with? I mean he does some off roading & I suspect they'd be great for that but he also spends a lot of time on the road.

Will there be any issue's with towing if it's had a Body lift of 100mm
& a Suspension lift?

Hi there, what motor has it got the deseil or petrol? Mine is the 3.1 deseil with an auto and I find that my 33's gear it up a bit too high for open road hill climbing and heavy towing I also find the fuel economy isn't to great so I run a set of 30's for the road. the supension lift shouldn't give you any towing problems as long as it has been done right.

It's the 3/1 diesel - It sounds like he' been out to look and doesn't think the swb is going to have enough room for all his tools etc. etc. so I think it's going to come down to a Landcruiser or a Safari....looks like the Safari's are cheaper in general too.

I have seen the Bighorn your talking about on TM looks nice and the wheels look really huge on that thing. I have a 1995 SWB 3.2 V6 and I have towed a 1964 SWB Landrover Series 2 from Auckland to Whangarei faster than my brothers Safari but obviously used more gas being a petrol and it went really well. I have no lift as present but it shouldnt be a problem with a body lift as the tow bar is connected to the chassis not the body.

I used to own a SWB Safari as well and if you fold the seats up there is not much difference in space but with the seats down the bighorn has more space I can fit way more in the bighorn.

The 3.1 Diesel as long as its been reg serviced etc it should be fine. But I have heard horror stories with piston liners melting to the pistons and other things but its the luck of the draw like with any thing. But I went for the 3.2 V6 as I wanted just a toy and the grunt haha and worry about the fuel bill later.

Have you considered that now if you get anything other than a bighorn your names going to be really farking inappropriate.

Maybe he did not mean his truck...

100mm body lift? Sounds rather excessive..Is it certed for that?

Heard a bit of talk about bad engines in the diesels, but I bought a bj74 with the supposedly super reliable 13bt diesel an it broke rings on the first trip I did in it (had it two days)
As someone else said its luck of the draw really
