Hi guys, Im Matt from Wellington, been going out 4wding with my brother for a while now and am looking to buy my own. Am looking to spend under $5k at this stage and am after some advice on whats my best bet. My brother has a Zuk so I am looking for something different, so far have been looking at Ruggers and SWB Pajeros. Looking for something I can put some big wheels on and raise right up with the least amount of problems.

Cheers

No Warrant or reg either if thats an issue.
Bit of a rip really. Mates one sold with similar ks on 35s with 2in sus lift for 5800. That ran and had a warrant and reg.

 happy to ask questions.

SWB Pajero is way way to go, you get alot for your money and some come with rear diff lock. Easy and cheap to lift and V6 have plenty of grunt with strong diffs not like the weak hilux diffs

thanks for the advice guys, im sure none of it was bias! haha. was looking at some Safaris last night, definately bad ass looking trucks, would I get one decent for under $5k though? Have been slightly put of the pajeros reading about people blowing cvs in the bush, definately not something I want to deal with.

The thing I liked most about my bros zuk was being able to do steep climbs my mates diesel isuzu couldnt, how would a safari compare in that respect?

heya bud ... welcome to ore .. wasn't long ago i was new to ore as well ..
keep an eye out on the forums here in the " planning a trip " thread and come out with the welly crew that way you will see all the different trucks perform and you'll get the idea where the strong points and weak points of each truck are ( of course toyota's don't have weak points  )

there is a trip coming up i believe where some of the palmy boys will be coming to try show the welly nutters how its done .
have a gander at times and dates and if you can make it post up that your keen and maybe if you need a lift them there is most certainly a seat in someones truck for ya ..

ps where in welly are ya ?

Dont discount the smaller zuks for giant killing abilities either. Just because your bro has one (can share spares etc) so it might be cheaper to run. Light so easier on gear, can use lighter winches etc and a zuk on 30's is like a lux on 33's for clearance (or a patrol on 35s). Light to push back onto their wheels too.
