1KT-TE KZN130 KZN185 Difference?

Post by COMILUX »

Hey

Hope you guys can help me out with a couple of questions i have.

Whats the difference between a 1KZ-TE in a kzn130 and a kzn185 model surf?

I no the kzn185 has longer valves in the head but what about the bottom end?

If i striped a kzn185 block bare and fitted everything from a kzn130 would it be the same as a kzn130? and would i run a small valve head or large valve head?

Thanks

I know the dipstick is on the other side & the later models run different temp thermostats depending on what vehicle they have come out of.
If its intercooled they have a different top cover....its flat to allow for the intercooler.

Thanks.
Yea was more interested in internal dfferences as my block turned out to be shot from water sitting in bore for to long and got offered one from a 185 for a good price, found out its had 350ish kms on it tho so droped that idea now.

Managed to pick a decent km tidy cond kzn185 motor complete so will throw that in and do all the usal cooling things etc.

I have been told that you can't interchange heads between KZN130's and 185's. The 185's have a different cooling port arrangement in the head to the block which is why they don't crack heads like the 130's. Also 185 motors had a manual setup for the throttle in 1996 and 1997 as after that they were fly by wire. It is only a matter of changing the fuel pump and inlet manifold off of a manaul setup if the motor is being put into a non fly by wire truck

The 185's are only fly by wire after about late 98 to the end of them in 02. All 185's before that (96 onwards) were same manual setup as the 130's.

Thanks guys.

Only differance that ive found so far thats caused any issue is the dip stick being on the oposite side, when you swap sumps the dip stick hits the sump.

Did you have to do anything special about this or just bend the didstick.
I have a spare kzn185 motor that is low k's that i may get around to replace my higher k kzn130 motor
