Watery Diesel?

Post by Jerry »

Seem to be getting a bit of Water in the diesel lately, the filter stops it, I generally only use one station (BP Wainui) so am wondering if its coming from there or if there is condensation or something?. Hasnt been a problem before?

Am guessing i'm going to have to drain the tank now and change filling stations.......

Id change stations real quick & also tell them they have a problem.
Water if stuff you diesel.... it will pit the top of your pistons , the head & cause your injector to wear fasr due to lack of lubrication. & if you have direct injection will stuff up the injection pump.
I regularily check the bottom of my fuel filter for water as it had a built in separator & sensor.

had to drain it twice before the service recently, 1/2 cup each time, had a service with new filter 1200k ago, and its just had a new filter again (was full of water apparantly). Filter has a sensor/dash light.

If the trucks sitting with a mostly empty tank temperature changes can cause condensation in the tank.
Didn't think it was a big problem usually though.

Do many people here run CAV fuel filters ahead of the factory filter? They're the ones with a glass bowl on the bottom that traps water and lets you see how much water is collected. Been thinking about getting one for a while now

Would meths in the diesel help with water in the fuel?, and old trick that has been used on petrol engines but no amount of searching will say if it actually works or not.

If you put meths or something else that allows the water to "dissolve" in the diesel your not actually fixing the problem.
The water will still go into your engine & cause trouble.
Your better to do the opposite... put something in to make it separate then you can get rid of it in your filter before it gets in.
If there so so much that this is impractical...id empty the tank...flush it out with known good diesel & start again.

I normally fill my tank right up to the neck today when i filled up at BP i notice that the diesel doesnt foam up like it does when i fuel up at Shell. Normally i would have to wait a bit when its close to fuel as the over flow tends to foam up the diesel. Can someone please tell me if its normal if the diesel doesnt foam up if u slush it around..
