hilux limited slip unit into prado diff head

Post by pradon35s »

I have a kzj78 with a open front diff that the last owner made a lock diff by welding the spider gears together, it works well unless you wanna turn....

I have heard I can get the limited slip (spider gear) assembly out of a hilux diff and use this with my pinion and crown wheel....? creating a limited slip front diff in the front.

my truck has high pinion diffs

1) was wondering if anyone has done this mod?

2) what hilux/Any truck do I want the limited slip unit out of?

cheers

we tried doing it to a mates one, when he spat out teeth in his crown wheel and pinion on his kz78 High pinion 4.3 LSD.
i had a Hilux diff head 4.3 open and we tried to change over the two but the bearing sizes are different from what i can remember. That's as far as we got and put the Hilux diff straight in it was easier for a bush repair

The bearings you need to use are the same side bearings as the 4 spider diffs or 'V6' as the yanks call them. These will be the same as what the rear diff in your prado use.
