Toyota ADD front diff

what are the two sensors on the front diff in a 91 Surf??
we are looking to replace the front diff with one from an earlier model surf that has a slipper in it, but hasn't got the sensors. With the plugs disconnected there are lots of bells and whistles going off in the cab.

You pretty much nailed it in the topic for this thread... they are not sensors, they are vacuum thingamywotsits :)

Part of the ADD.

I'm reasonably certain you can fit the diff from an earlier one in, but you will loose ADD, which means the entire front drivetrain will spin all the time, and you have no pushbutton 4WD any more.

Your best bet is to SAS the truck and be done with it :)

...or find an ADD diff...

...or replace the diff head in the ADD axle assy with the one you have from the earlier unit.

Steve

PS: Did I mention SAS????

there are sensors that screw into the vacuum thingamywotsits, one sensor tells you when your 4wd is engaged, the other not too sure about. Its the one we aren't sure about, that sets off all the bells in the cab. Just trying to figure out how to get rid of them (and the bells/lights).
Its a mates truck and I can't quite convince him on a SAS, even though he has seen how my (new (84)) Solid axle Surf goes. And he isn't worried about the ADD stuff, have free wheeling hubs fitted so shouldn't have any problems there.
My old IFS surf took 5 years of abuse off road before the chassis died at Xmas time, and he reckons he aint as hard as me off road...

And die it did. My chassis around the steering box cracked badly after landing heavily on front wheels after a steep climp going up Slab Hut Creek in Reefton
So now in my drive way parked next to the knackered IFS Surf is an 84 Solid axle Supra powered Surf

yeah common cause.........

running big feet you wanna plate each side of the chasis rail then redrill and re bolt ya box on and ive even run a member(solid welded)between the rails to stop twist which works a treat a must for a hardcore bushtruck with a sas conversion and a guy that cant drive for shit :P

those 80 series cruisers do even more cracking in the same area of the chasis so dont think its just surfs
