Radiator Options?

After some Radiator suggestions as the current one isn't keeping the 1uz cool, it appears to be the original 2LT (2 core??) diesel one with modified pipes. no engine fan, but there is a davies craig fan at the front.
Space available between the motor and the radiator is 40mm
at the smallest point (as the motor is sitting at an angle)

Are there any decent slimline fans avaliable?, Would an Alloy one be better?, Another thought I had was to plumb in an additional small radiator or 2 into the cooling system as well.

when is it not cooling? open road or low speed?
elec fans are poos at best but some are better than others.
a shroud may help on the front or just get a whole new system made.

Getting hot climbing hills and slow crawls, and towing dead hiluxes .... sispect the current one is blocked a bit/lot ... so looking at either recoring it and extra fans etc or a new one if this is cheaper/better

shroud the fan!!! you are possibly only pushing air thru about 50% of the cooling fin effectively doing fuk all cooling, fan needs to be shrouded to cover entire radiator, you also should try and make it a pull thru rather than pushing air thru

http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motor ... 652086.htmI use one of the above Rad's in my Hilux and have a AU Coon factory Bosch twin fan set-up on them, The AU thermo fans are what the Ozzy's and Yanks use on big horsepower drag cars etc but in America they are off a Taurus, The Mondeo twin elec fans are slightly smaller and pull alot of air aswell.
The fans are already fully shrouded and pull a shite load of air, over 3000CFM from memory, the downside is that are very large fans and only just fit the large alloy rad mentioned above.
My 1UZ Lux with the above set-up has never even looked like getting hot even in thick mud or sand

I second what Hayden says about the coon fans. I have them on the alloy radiator in the back of my lux, They move some serious air. If you use them make sure your wiring is up to it, mine pull 45 amps on start up. At the moment (until i get a bigger relay) im only running one of the pair and it still easily keeps my truck cool.

Below is the pic of my rad and fans, you can see ive cut the vallance section out and made a new brace/cross member but they fit in there with enough room.
My fans were originally wired with only one working aswell and it never got hot with just the larger of the two fans and now with them both going the cooling is even better, they do suck huge amp's on start up and mine are wired with a 40 amp fuse and a 40 amp relay for each fan.

as someone else said- there are good and bad electric fans.
The cheap $50-150 ones off trademe are shiethouse and usually only have around 1/3rd the flow of a decent fan which can be found between 200-300 dollars.
Forget the brand but it starts with a z.. someone else can help. They make very good fans at a good price.

Was looking at something like one of these for the rear and a new radiator, will have to have a good measure up..., theres a Davies C fan on the front already and that seems good

Some fans are made to blow & others suck... to change them over you need to take the blade off , reverse it then also reverse the wiring .
Also you need a decent shrould to make them suck over the whole face of the radiator.

id say as well as getting a new fan jerry take it out and send it up to the radiator place behind h2o extreme in upper hut .. they do a fantastic job and very cheap in comparison .. have a talk to him re the fan set up as well very talented guy and even if it means he will loose the work he WILL point you in the right direction ..
looked after me with my 3b radiator make sure you pick it up friday and let him know its cash lol ( beer money ) turns out alot cheaper that way hahahaha

if you are still want to use a 2lt radiator and its has a trans cooler in the bottom tank remove the bottom radiator pipe and you will see that over 50% of the area is blocked by the internal cooler pipes , get a radiator specalist to remove it and get it cleaned Theres not much wrong with 2lt radiators and should easily cool a 1uz with the correct fan and shoud
