wESTcOAST cms

Post by albundy »

About 3 years ago the Westcoast CMS reveiw started. There was alot of debate and action over that time with some of us making submissions to ensure that a) we had access to our tracks on the coast and not permit driven for a select few, and b) get recogntion of 4wd tracks on the westcoast and have them label as such.
I am please to say that the work of those few who contributed to the review has enabled access for ALL. Don't forget this. Here is a classic example of the people at work. We can achieve the same with the Waipara river. Thanks to all those who got involved. To those that didn't, it may be time to start pondering your committment to the sport and how you could become more involved.

Also Al, don't forget that there's more than private submissions. The club driven ones carry as much, if not more weight. Its a bit like unions, innit?

In Unity There is Strength

What I am saying is,

JOIN A CLUB
and add your voice to the collective, the more numbers we can point to and say we represent, the more we can influence the various agencies.

it does not matter WHAT club, so long as its affiliated with either NZFWDA or another collective group.

Has anyone heard any noises from DoC as to when they might recommence the Otago and Canterbury CMS reviews?

Quiet a lot of people submitted on 4wd acess during the westcoast cms process and a lot of people spoke on their submissions to the commissioners. 4wd people contributed the most subs on the whole document and have ended up with a good result. Special thanks to John Randle who really got people going on this and put a huge effort into it. If the same could be achieved for the Waipara it would be well worth the effort.
cheers Flag.

Damn!! THAT long ago? Where does time go? Craig, yr mate Nick L and I did some for the Wanganui/Taranaki CMS in our turn. My comment still is valid, Al, more weight is given to club voices then non club.

Ohhh BTW, Kiwi4x4 is the only and first 4wd club that I have ever been in!!

How about something along these lines......

"Greetings, Bill'

This letter is to advise that we are going full paperless invoicing and billing.

Please write back, using the enclosed form and envelope, advising us of your email address, as well as confirming your residential address.

Confirmation of this correspondence will be mailed in the next few days.

Yours respectfully

The Canterbury CMS is still sitting waiting for final directives from the Director General of Conservation.

The only areas within the CMS that has been moving is the Ashburton Lakes & St James. There have been a few changes up there with some fragile areas closed off and others closed for the Winter. DOC's main problems up there come from motor bikes and Hunters not wanting to carry their kill too far. They have wrecked Gates and cut fences.
DOC have acknowledged that it is NOT 4WDers.
There will be some areas up there that will be opened up for us but it will take time.
Some of the things they are protecting are very difficult to comprehend. During a day up there with 3 DOC staff I was shown a Kettle Hole. It was left after the Glaciers receded. Full of water it was explained there is a very rare Native plant going on the bottom. Very small you cant see it. When the hole dries out you cant see it as it almost disappears until its wet again.
Most of these areas are now fenced.
They intend to put up some signs to inform what they are trying to protect.
Other than the Ashburton Lakes, until we see the changes wanted by the DG we wont know what has been taken on board from our meetings during the initial Draft process.
We were included because of the input that we had into the CMS process on the West Coast.
When it comes to Submissions I agree that Club and organisation Submission hold more weight but when it comes down to it numbers and big ones at that show how passionate we are about the places we go 4WDing.

Cheers

I was advised from staff at the Canterbury conservancy office that the Canterbury, Otago and Southland CMS reviews will all be initiated in March 2011.

Been following them all for work purposes and have been expecting the Canterbury one at least to kick off for about a year now but it keep getting delayed :?

Lots of delays from 'head office' - this is what I was told:

"waiting on some final National Office approvals for a now more-integrated nation-wide CMS programme."
