Has there ever been a snorkel made for Hiace 4wds- older ones like ours?

We do use it off road and the other day I had to stop at a river crossing which I knew was going to be higher than the intake.

Also- It seems that we must have the last remaining first gen 4wd hiace left in NZ?

I have not seen any others on the road.We just bought one today for spares though as it has a 25,000 km on rebuilt engine in it - ours uses 1 litre per 350 km

4wd version would be rare. the later 90-on are more common.

i looked for snorkels for a later hiace with no success. the only ones i've seen in person where home made. however i have seen pics from japan with molded plastic ones.
one other problem is the air cleaner itself is way down low so it will have to be very well sealed as well.

today we started taking the engine out of ours and another van we just bought to swap em across. i noticed how easy the rubber coupling comes off from between manifold and filter housing - perhaps some macgyver like arrangement for an internal (noisy...) snorkle could be made? just for river crossings.

wouldn't bother, just make an external one. its fairly easy with those ones. an external one has the BIG plus of getting the intake away from all the dust coming off the front wheels.

Are there universal ones that come with a variety of spacers to fit the intake hole? It will have to be a straight up vertical design to suit a van. Where is the inlet on a 4x4 delica- perhaps there might be one designed for them that might suit?

I vote getting some rectangular PVC downpipe and an end cap for the bottom.

Use your imagination. screw the rectangular section up the side of the van starting at the most flat part. Where it needs to bend or curve heat the area of PVC evenly and SLOWLY with a heatgun. It'll cool and hold that shape.

you will smash a PVC off really fast. they are really open to be hit as they are so low.
the one that a guy had locally was just exhaust pipe bend to suit. followed the curve of the van, straight through the inlet and onto the intake.

Or that flexible pipe from irrigation suppliers! I'm up for anything so long as it works. Finishing an engine/other bits swap right now and then look at building the snorkel- will keep this post updated.

Go exhaust tubing bent to suit. Be far better. Just don't snake the snorkel hat off a 4x4 like a lot of pirates do . BNT can do em for cheap.
