Akaroa via 4wd

Post by mike »

If you are heading over to Akaroa in a 4wd shiney, Then there are a couple of destinations over there that are well worth taking a look. One is the light house out at the head of the harbour.
To get to this you must take a windy very very steep road over the hill at the end of Akaroa. The views are incredible.

From the top of the hill you can venture down to the light house or head off to another bay along a gravel road(4wd recommended). The lighhouse itself although just a small modern thing now, has a nice walking track down to the boat warf which is a sight to see in a semi rough sea. Image

You can get from chch to Akaroa via a few scenic roads and stock tracks along the way. If you plan it right, you can spend a whole day taking in the peninsula most people never get to see.
