Hi all, Can auto/manual hubs on the safaris be converted to manual only? Having problems with them chattering and not unlocking correctly or do i have to replace with manual hubs?

That's the best thing to do, no unlocking and relocking from reverse to fwd, vise versa

I was hooning around on the dirt road between Alfredton and Tinui and heard this godawful clanking/rattling like I had picked up some wire on the front wheel that finally gave way. Changing to 2wd gave me a clicking sound from the front left which went away after I engaged 4wd then disengaged.
Changed auto hubs on my GQ today with a set from 4wdbits:
http://www.4wdbits.co.nz/ProductDetails ... uctID=1485 because they were doing exactly what you're experiencing and also randomly disengaging at awkward times when you really needed them.
When replacing the auto hubs I didn't know which parts to pull out so I went to the post that Coxsy pointed out above and did some research.
After pulling everything out but the spacer ring with teeth on it, I put the hubs on and still had the clicking. Pulled them off again and took everything out except the bits that came with the new hubs and clicking was gone.
Highly recommend picking up a set of circlip pliers before you start, it'll save you heaps of trouble arsing about with screwdrivers etc.

Hi, I’ve removed the hubs and taken the C Clip off the axle then removed one washer and some tab looking thing then replaced the washer and C Clip put hubs back on and seems to be working all ok....... I have a locker in front so time will tell..... Not sure what part was supposed to be split and pictures?
