Hello Mitsubishi people
Long time Suzuki abuser, first time Pejero owner.
Looking at a choice between these two. Both the same vehicle spec.
1 1991 v6 3.0L SWB auto 227.000km $4500
2 1993 v6 3.0L SWB auto 173.000km $7000
BUT concerned about the high kms with option 1.
I do about 8500kms per year, so in 4 years it would be 261.000kms
It would be given a bit of a workout occasionally in a 4x4 situation and tow a 1.5 ton trailer every other month.
Both vehicles have a reasonable service history, option 1 has had a cam belt, cant remember what the 2nd vehicles cam belt situation was.
How many kms have you guys done or expect to do?
And any other good/bad info would be helpful.
Tire size, diff ratio change, suspension, fuel economy.
Cheers MIKE.
Buying a Pejero, high kms?
Re: Buying a Pejero, high kms?
High Kms isnt necesarily a bad sign as long as services are done and it's been cared for properly. Low Kms is more of a worry. Daily drivers around town and short trips need more frequent maintainance to keep the oil fresh (engines dont get hot enough to purge the moisture from the oil so it needs changing 6 monthly).
If they both drive the same, have good service history, leakdown and coolant system pressure tests are okay, the undersides dont show signs of abuse, the engine bays havent been steam cleaned to remove traces of oil and crap (shows their true nature) and it comes down to KM's Id go with the lower, but without seeing them and driving them it's hard to say.
I see they are both V6 so will be reasonably thirsty (not guzzlers but they will like a sip or two) and the autos will make that slightly worse I'm guessing. Maybe the cheaper one to offset the extra fuel use (a few grand buys a lot of gas). Might pay to check how hard it is to overhaul the autos too. Have heard they dont have adjustable clutches (not an auto guru so dont know) so cost a bomb to replace. I could be wrong with these ones but I know a mitsi van we had did this and it was mega bucks to repair. Check the auto fluid colour too (if its a nice red then its cool (well has had achange at least), but if its a dirty brown and smells burned walk away.
Buggered if I know. What ever you buy someone will have something to say one way or the other
. Just do your home work, save some cash for a full service when you get it to do all the fluids (and filters) and an auto flush too and you should be alright.
Good luck.

Re: Buying a Pejero, high kms?
Thank Heath.
The high km model was used as a mums car, to school and work.
The 2nd Pejero was used every day to travel to work then home, probably 20mints each way.
Yeah so hard to say.
Cheers MIKE.

Re: Buying a Pejero, high kms?
Im currently looking at 4x4s in Australia as I'm moving there in 4 weeks. Ive seen alot of Pajeros over there both the 3L and 3.5L V6's that have done 280,000+ kms. Saw one that had done 420,000kms the other day. So personally I am now starting to think off 220,000kms as low kms.
I think really it comes down to how well they have been maintained. But the Kms will effect the saleability/sale price.
Not much help really, but at 200,000kms on the clock I would say they still have alot more life in them.
