Hi

I went for a wof and was told thet the front drivers wheel bearing needs tightened.

All good I removed the manual hub lock and hub lock body removed the double nuts and locking washer removed the bearing cover washer and checked the bearing all OK.

Tightened everything and the movement is still there, no change even. In looking at the movement the movement is at the ball and socket end of the front diff.

I have been known to have to do things twice but I do not think this is from the bearing, I will be getting the manual today what else should I look for (or have I not done).

Any and all assistance greatly appreciated

Sounds like you have a collapsed kingpin bearing... DON'T drive the vehicle...

There is a cap on the bottom of the hub assembly with 4 nuts, under this is a bearing... the steering arm on the top is held on with 4 nuts... under that is the other kingpin bearing. These two bearings are what the truck steers on, and virtually all the hub is held on with.

Oh, you can buy kingpin bearings seperately from places like Saeco bearings or just rebuild the knuckle since you're going to have to strip it down to bare bones to do that anyway (there is a shortcut, but its a bit ugly and easy to damage the inner seal).

If you need a rebuild kit give me a shout, I can get one for you today if its urgent...

Thanks I think you are right based on the movement I can feel I do not think it has colapsed completely (yet) but I knew I tightend the wheel bearing!

Well at least there is a long weekend coming up. Time for a front axle teardown me thinks

what is in the rebuild kit and how much? PM me if you wish (and maybe include your number )

Heres an exploded view of the knuckle I borrowed from JT Outfitters... This should help immensley in the re-assembly process...

Well it looks like I wont be the only one in the garage for the long weekend :lol:

Pity I hoped to go somewhere muddy

and have some fun.

After the above coment Steve and Rik may drag me out one day to show me what fun really is :shock:

Now if only I had a better setup truck.......
